Dometic Fridge shelves
Just been preparing the van for my forthcoming trip and cleaning the fridge out decided to do 'a proper job' and pull all the removable bits out to clean in the house. I find the wire rack shelves extremely frustrating being made of rubbishy galavanised steel and needing wire wool to clean them up reasonably. Apart from cost cutting I can't help but wonder why on earth these damn things were not made in stainless steel making them easier to clean, not to mention lasting longer too. Given the cost of these fridges (more than a full size domestic one), I would have thought Electrolux could have managed to ease that into their budget!
Are they all made of this crappy cheap steel or do some have stainless ones fitted?

I've never seen them in galvanised finish. I'm fairly sure mine were chromed steel, but they are rather prone to corrosion, as it's usually humid in there while the fridge is running.

Ours look galvanised and I've also wondered why.

Ours are (poorly) plated mild steel ..... (just checked with a magnet !!)
Would certainly be better in Stainless Steel ..... all down to cost, I'm afraid.

Mine aren't even plated!! Just bare metal. Had a look on fleabay and some appear to be chromed or stainless but very difficult to tell from the photos. Doesn't mention such in the item description and at £23+ for just one shelf......crazily expensive.
My van oven shelve/racks are stainless. Oven is 13 years old and the shelves will undoubtedly outlast the oven. Piece of cake to clean using Astonish paste which gets them looking like new in seconds.....and with very little effort too.
