Lottery to double !!
When the National Lottery started, Chris (like many others) did the silly thing of family birthday numbers (two lines) instead of 'lucky dips'.
So the 'organizers' knew that by bringing in the 'plus five' she would be one of those caught up in their ploy ( "what if my numbers come on the +5 days " ?? and so she did them also !!)
Round one to the ...
'They' are now planning to put it up to £2 ( i.e. double)
In my opinion they have 'shot themselves in the foot' .......
Round two to us ...... and a move to the Irish Lottery (keeping the same numbers)
Even if the increase doesn't happen (so many people are protesting !!) 'they' have lost us for good.
"Don't mess with us wrinklies"
Brian
PS .... We only ever checked the results on-line. so not a problem for the 'odd' missing days.

Re: Lottery to double !!
I agree with you, we rarely do the lotto but wont be doing it a £2 a line they can shove it where the sun don't shine. I think however the people that do it every week and work groups will continue for the most part. Everything considered they will most like make more money from lesser amounts of people which is most likely the plan.
I hope for the majority the prices stay at £1

Re: Lottery to double !!
Brian,
I've always thought that the Lottery was a case of the intelligent rich robbing the gullible poor; but that didn't stop us from participating! (Check the bottom of the page!)
We used birthdays and gave up when we retired to live most of our time away from the UK. So far we have saved at least £1,000 but I am threatened with a sure and certain death if I ever find that our numbers have come up and then tell Helen!!
I do check occasionally and if it ever happens I plan to start the telephone conversation from another country with the words "You'll laugh when I tell you this ....!"
Best regards,
Ian

That's us, Ian ........ "the gullible poor"
I think you are very brave ..... "still checking occasionally"
Not sure what we are going to 'squander' our £2 wk. on ?? (saved by not doing the +5) ..... looks like two Macdonald's 99 pence burgers ........ now we only have 2 pence (and indigestion ) to worry about
Brian

Re: Lottery to double !!
Hi
As I too have stopped doing the National Lottery I thought I would do the Irish but I can't find an answer to a couple of queries so I thought I would tap into your collective brain cells
1, what do they mean by Lotto plus 1 and Lotto plus 2? Are they separate draws?
and
2, do they e-mail you if you win
Thanks in advance
"H"

Hi 'H',
We are still covered with the UK lottery until Friday, so will have to check out what the 'Plus 1 & Plus 2 mean !! (we hope to do it on-line)
Regards and let's hope 'the luck of the Irish' rubs off on us ....... (but not a jackpot on the same week )
Brian

Re: Lottery to double !!
Hi again Hillwalker,
Have checked out their Website, and it seems there are three draws on each Wednesday and Saturday .....
1) .......... The Irish lottery
2) .......... Plus 1
3) .......... Plus 2
So £3:00 per day, if you do one line on all three draws ....
Hope I've got it right
Brian

Irish lotto
Brian is correct that there are 3 draws and the €3 covers all 3. They will send an e-mail if you sign up for it (it takes them a couple of hours after the draw before you receive it). Our lotto has recently upped the amount of numbers that could be drawn so it takes longer for the jackpot to be won (last week it was €10.5 million and unfortunately not me !)

I still subscribe to the old saying .....
"To know what God thinks of money just look at who he gives it to!"
..... and I consider myself favoured to have never been given any significant amount of it.

Re: Lottery to double !!
Been meaning to get on here over the last couple of days so I could reply to this but been occupied with other stuff.....
Anyway, is anyone considering doing the health lottery? Prizes seem more fairer than the national lottery instead of a tenner you get 3 WINNING NUMBERS: £20 the most I've had for four numbers is £63 but other times I've had much much less, rather annoying when I've had four numbers around seven times to date, on the health lottery 4 WINNING NUMBERS: £250 and for 5 WINNING NUMBERS: UP TO £100,000* which ain't bad either.
Also 20p in every £ goes to health related good causes in the UK and not like camelot's effort to the tax man, in fact I seem to recall the national lottery was only started as it allowed an extra tax to be collected. What annoys me about the current setup is I've won loads of three and four number draws and a tenner for three numbers sucks and four numbers should be way more than the current £65 or whatever it's supposed to be, personally I think for one number you should get a tenner never mind three of the blighters!
I'm not interested in winning multi million pound prizes and think a fairer system would be to cap the silly money paid out to some of the current winners, a cap of say five million should be enough for anyone, then they would free up more money for better prize money for less numbers.
Agree with others that Camelot have shot themselves in the foot, the draws have become really boring, you have little chance of winning, there are way too many games and they should have just stuck with the one Saturday night draw to keep people interested. Also agree most of us fell into that trap of using birth dates but there's no way I'm playing anymore once they put it up to two pound a go and they can stick it where the sun don't shine!
End of rant

As Ive realised It's a bad mistake using birthdays decks..... Trouble is you feel the urge to need to do them every week, best bet is random numbers weekly I reckon or with the lotto a luck dip seems to have bought quite a few large windfalls.
