Harmony Double Bed
Hi,
I've always used the single bed option in the Harmony but I've been very fortunate recently to have met a travel companion who is likely to become more than a tc.
We have discussed sleeping arrangements ( no sniggering at the back please !) and I'm trying figure out how the double bed option works.
I've got 2 tables and all the cushions but can't see a lip on the nearside rear passenger seat front section when folded flat, am I missing something ?
Hope someone can help.
Regards
Terry
ps. true happiness can appear when you least expect it whatever your age !

Re: Harmony Double Bed
When you pull the folding section out you will see a 6" long piece of wood screwed to one of the panels, this is considered enough to support the table. This is for sleeping across the van. To use the king size double you will need the infill piece which is supported by the front seats.....

Re: Harmony Double Bed
Hi Terry,
Good to hear of the change in your personal circumstances.
We too until recently only used the single option, but decided that the double arrangement could be better.
That's when the 'fun' started.
The AS handbook was of no use as it showed the arrangement after there was obviously a modification.
I ended up using just one table, (for the reason you stated), which left a bit of a gap at the forward end.
(That was a job just getting the table in!!)
I had thought about making a support arrangement for the other table, as indeed there is no lip for it to sit on.
Anyway, I stumbled on an infill cushion in the loft, (carefully stored as we don't use it) and think that may fill the void.
Unfortunately, haven't had the opportunity to try it yet, so no help for you there!
FWIW we used a memory foam topper over the arrangement to smooth out the 'bumps'.
Only downside, it's too much of a faff to dismantle every day, so we left it in place.
I must say, I do prefer the single arrangement if only for the ease of use.
I'm glad it wasn't just me who couldn't figure out the double bed arrangement!!

Re: Harmony Double Bed
Hi PB
Nearly 69 and went on a blind date arranged by someone I'd helped with their Rambler last year- wow, didn't see it coming !
Yes, it was the night time comfort breaks which led us to use the singles in the first place and may still be the case.
I've now figured how to use the narrow infill cushions, we won't need the square ones as we're both a bit 'compact' nor will need to use the front seats.
I use a 3 seater garden bench cushion to smooth out the lumps when I'm using the nearside single as it's easy to fold up and sits in the front passenger footwell along with a rolled up sleeping bag when I'm touring solo.
Storage space is tight in the Harmony even though I've removed the overcab bulkhead for more flexibility (with a cargo net) so I don't want to carry to much extra kit but will need to make space for a mattress topper.
I was wondering if a Fiamma table tripod and an ultra short tube might be stable enough for the second table ?
Thanks for your help as always.

Re: Harmony Double Bed
When we purchased our Harmony in 1995 we ordered the double bed option for it. This comprised a small flat plywood 'table' with folding legs and a number of additional cushions which, as we understand it, would make a double bed longitudinally, not cross-wise. We tried installing it just the once - there were no instructions with it - and in the end we couldn't make sense of how it all worked. Actually we weren't too fussed, for two reasons really: first we had no spare storage room for the cushions and the 'table' thing and, secondly, I needed the loo too often in the night, and a clear gangway was, and still is, the best option.
If anyone wants to try the table-thing then I'm prepared to sell it. The cushions are somewhere in the loft too - the missus will know where they are. So if interested please PM me.

Re: Harmony Double Bed
Hi Bartfast
The loo thing is key to singles or double. If we go double it would be across the van as we're both 'vertically challenged' and can avoid using the cab seats which probably means warmer feet when it gets chilly. Looks like a bit of diy is called for if needed.
I'll pass on your table-thing thanks !

Re: Harmony Double Bed
I'm a solo travelling alone and use the single by the slider door but even that has become "a faff" for me now (i'm getting old!) and have been looking at changing the van to go for a fixed bed. Must admit with the whole bed layout in place there is little room for manoeuvre if one requires the loo during the night and requires some athletic skills!peugeotboxer wrote:Hi Terry,

Hi,
Yes, we do want to be 'close' but not sure how long that will last after a few sorties to the bathroom !!! Anyway how do you elegantly get from the cab side in a double set up to the loo anyway ??????
I think I know the answer to that !!
The singles or double conversation is still open so it could go either way.

Re: Harmony Double Bed
Two singles for us in the van, night-time trips far to frequent. Plus in the morning either of us can have a lie-in while the other makes the tea and breakfast.
Was the reason we picked the Symphony - two singles take seconds to prepare and replace.

Re: Harmony Double Bed
Symphony/Symbol is a good choice. Using the cab seats in the Harmony is a pain but given the emotional attachment to the van because of my late wife's involvement changing is not an option.
When I'm touring solo I use the single option nearside and leave the offside permanently set up as my 'lounge/diner'.

Re: Harmony Double Bed
I've just used a bit of 'Barry Bucknell' inspiration, 2 bits of wood, some jointing blocks and a bit of 'boggit and leggit' and got a result. The jointing blocks provide a slot for the upright into the base which holds up the small table( which also has a jointing block channel) so it all unclips daytime.
I'm too embarrassed to put up a photo. The hide 'n seek fairies had left the missing infill cushions in plain sight as usual so just a road test at Black Knowl later this month to prove it works.
I'm going to Regal Furnishings in September for an assessment mainly for re-cushioning and a taller settee back rest that will infill in one piece instead of 3.
I'd also like some thicker thermal curtains too. They can also do a better job on the double bed support too.
I'd like them to reuse some of original material for cushion covers as a nod to the past when my late wife and I first put the Harmony on the road. I daresay the fabric on the walls will stay too.
The change will happen after April next year and I'll keep you posted.
