Parts for my new toy (Trooper)
My new baby has not been treated too kindly by it's previous owners, and needs some TLC. I have already had a few bits fixed, but hit a snag in getting parts for it.
It is a '94 VW T4. The petrol and temp guages are not working, and the garage says I need a replacement pcb, which is no longer available. I have found a guy in Manchester who will get it refurbed for me, but I need to have it taken out and post it to him, and it will take a week to get it back. Anyone know where I can get one that I can just get put in?
I've read on forums that it is most likely to be the voltage stabiliser component that is faulty and have found a guy who will replace that, but am not sure if the rest of the board is OK. Anyone got experience of this?
I also need a replacement catch for one of the little drawers in the conversion. It falls out when travelling. I've e-mailed Autosleeper and Just Kampers, but if anyone knows other good sources for AS parts I'd love to know.
Might actually be able to go out for a jolly soon.....

Hi
This was a known fault with the early T4s
When I had my 1994 Trident T4 I had this problem. I took the Speedo clock out(fairly easy) and took it to a local Company who Mfd PCBs and they resoldered it for me, and all the would take was a couple of pounds for the Coffee Kitty.
Worked fine after that.

Hi there
If you can use a soldering iron, take out the pcb and reflow the solder connections on the voltage regulator.

No, I'm afraid I can't use a soldering iron (I am a girlie, after all!) Have googled around for pcb engineers locally but not found any. There's also the matter of how to remove it (garage have put it back together now).

Hi,
I had this problem when I bought an 1992 Autosleeper Trident and fixed it by using the following step by step guide.
Even if you dont want to do the soldering yourself it explains how to take the clocks out etc:

Re: Parts for my new toy (Trooper)
Thanks, Dave
I did find these instructions, but was a bit wary of attempting this myself in case I couldn't get it all back together properly (I know, I am being a wimp!)
Am trying to find a local auto electrics guy to do it for me. but don't know who I can trust so if anyone has a recommendation for someone within reach of New Malden (near Kingston) in Surrey, please shout.

Hi Rhubarb
Just thought I'd let you know that I lived with my erratic fuel/temp gauges for the first 18 months of ownership of my T4 but finally got them fixed after a serious miscalculation resulted in me running out of fuel on the motorway!! I didn't feel confident enough to dismantle the instrument binnacle and I don't have access to a soldering iron so I gave a print out of Rod Sleighs instructions and pictures to my local garage and they did it for just over 2 hours labour, well worth it in my opinion.
Good luck
Carl
