Body repairs on GRP
I recently sustained relatively minor damage to the GRP skirt and Gas locker hinge on my Nuevo. Do members recommend that I ask the dealer to do the repair (due for a minor routine bit of maint in Dec anyway) or go to my local car body shop?

Hi there,
... and how long is the particular piece of string you are looking at??
It's all a balance of "cost v. trust".
If you trust your local man and he is cheaper then go for it and take whatever comes!
If you don't trust him or he is more expensive than the dealer then go for the dealer!
Either way you have to make yourself happy with the result because there is nothing worse than paying twice for the same job!
Best regards,

I 'do' a lot of fibre-glass (grp) work in my buisiness & its very easy to do, far easier than steelwork on bodies, so any reasonable body shop should be
well up for it.

I love skilled people who tell other people how easy it all is!!
Having owned a number of GRP boats and rusty old bangers I too have "done" a fair amount of GRP work.
However, after many failures and a few successes, I have come to the conclusion that working with GRP is one of the "black arts" that is almost akin to turning lead into gold!
For some reason whenever I do a GRP job:
o The resin starts setting well before I am finished (or fails to set until I am a nervous wreck with worry)!
o The resin and fibres ALWAYS manage to migrate to somewhere were they aren't wanted (like hair or arm pits)!
o The tools are ALWAYS wasted at the end of the job. Be it brushes, mixing containers, scissors or anything else.
o I ALWAYS either run out of GRP before the job is completed or finish up with load extra which promptly goes "off" before the next job.
So, "Good luck!" to those who try and "Well done." to those who succeed; but I now hand all GRP work on to an "expert". (i.e. anyone daft enough to do the job for me!)
Best regards,

Depends who your dealer is. If its Spinney ok, if its Marquis I would look for someone local of if you want to go to a real specialist contact Crossley Coachcraft, they are either at Leyland or Chorley cant remember which
I have recently done a minor repair to the Windsors sill and am happy with it.

GRP repairs - easy to do, difficult to get right! I always use someone I know and trust to do it now, it saves on the heartache even at the expense of a few pounds. Worth looking around for recommendations in your area.
