I am considering buying one of the above mentioned aerials to improve my tv reception which can be a bit erratic on some sites through the Wing omnidirectional aerial fitted to my Symbol. Has anyone any experience with either of these and got any comments re performance and fitting?

Hi Lancslad.....

Can't comment on the avtex as I've never used one but we used to have a Vision Plus Image 420 Aerial when we had our Trident... reception was usually pretty OK to be honest but we used ours on a telescopic pole which was higher than the camper. They are very popular with caravans as we've seen loads on sites usually attached to the jockey wheels.

Would still prefer a Status 530 as fitted to the roof of our Nuevo myself for ease of use and convenience.

As the status aerial on our van has utterly ceased to function, I got an avtex aerial on the basis that it had good reviews and is also self powered from an avtex TV which we use in the kitchen so we don't use an extra power lead. Only tried it once (in a poor signal area) and it worked quite well. It is an interim fix before getting a dome on top as the next boys toy for the van

I have a status 330 fitted to my motorhome, which has proved to be rubbish (although had the same fitted to my old Swift royale where it worked well confused3 ). On my last trip away I bought an Avtex, as I'd read some good reviews on it - it can be used inside or outside (handy option when it's raining ) and, as noted by DuxDeluxe, can be powered from the avtex tv. I was really impressed by how well it worked and at the huge number of channels I get with it, so would definately recommend allthumbz

Hi Lanclad
I have a Avtex TVs, (two infact) the wing omni directional aerial on last van,a 59 Symbol was unworkable, purchased a Avtex aerial and a painters extendable pole and received good receiption.
My 09 Nuevo has a Status 530/10 aerial with signal booster and still receive good reception, however still have to use the Avtex aerial if some big rig pitches next to you and breaks the signal.

Thanks for the feedback. I would like to consider installing one of the Status push up directional aerials (for ease of use) but I do not think that it will fit because the Symbol roof appears quite thick and there is a shelf at the top of the wardrobe where the aerial would come through making installation difficult.

See no reason why a status push up type aerial cant be fitted as you can get them with longer poles, why not contact the Auto-Sleeper service centre and ask? their rates are (currently) fairly reasonable and it might be worth asking the cost to supply and fit (if it's possible) shrugg

They do a short mast version. I have a shelf in my wardrobe on our Duetto, but Im going to have a go at installing the status 550... cant see why it wont fit. There is 30cm of space between ceiling and shelf... how much do you have?

The space between my roof and shelf is only 19cm but it may be possible to fit the mast in front of the shelf just in front of the door. My main concern is the roof cavity which according to Status must be 25-50mm and I am not sure of this measurement on the Symbol.

We have a status 530 short pole aerial fitted by the dealer when we bought the van, this is in the wardrobe and the pole runs down in front of the shelf and works well, however in retrospect and considering the small extra price I think I should have specified the long pole version, to gain extra hight when reception is poor.

Well if my Duetto is anything to go by in regards to roof thickness... it was nearly 70mm. Still managed to fit a status 550 though. Lucky for me I had just enough space between the shelf and ceiling. Ive taken pictures of the install, so when I get some spare time, ill make them into an information sheet.

Thanks for the pics, Snelly. up! Im looking to change the old status 330 I have at present to a 550, so useful to see what space it takes up in the wardrobe.
Bearing in mind I have an avtex aerial as a 'back-up', would it be worthwhile changing over to the 550 ? (Im thinking about the benefits of the 550 being able to clear the raised sides on the nuevo roof)
regards

I would say yes... the 550 is far superior to the flying saucer type 300 series and the avtex sth1000. If you have a wardrobe and can get the longer mast 560 version, thats even better.
