Moved off our pitch
We stayed a couple of nights recently at Sycamore Lakes, Skegness Road, Burgh le Marsh, nr Skegness
We were told prior to our arrival that we were on pitch 61 and the first evening all was fine.... However, on the second day we went into Skegness and when we arrived back we were both dumbstruck to find a caravan on our pitch... they had erected their awning and unplugged our hook up lead and plugged it in on the neighboring pitch!
Upon our arrival the previous day we had erected our flag pole & ASOF flag and this was still on the pitch about 2" away from the corner of their awning upon confronting them to inform them they were in our pitch we got a response along the lines of "We were meant to be on pitch 60 but the caravan occupying the pitch was meant to leave today, but they haven't left so we have moved up one pitch" so suddenly we were relegated to pitch 62!
Reception was closed so no one to vent our anger at, decided to just get on with it and moved our ASOF flag over onto our new pitch and hooked up... the most annoying thing was there were three or four empty pitches the other side of us so why couldn't these inconsiderate individuals just pitch up on one of those instead
Are we alone or has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Moved off our pitch
CC,
Sorry to hear that; thankfully, it has never happened to us!
With regard to the Sycamore Lakes site itself:
1. Bad News! When I fished there as a kid the ponds were famous for being full of rubbish and called "the brick pits"!
2. Good News! Their "chip butties" comprise a bun the size of a dinner-plate with enough chips to fill a decent sized skip!
Best regards,
Ian

Re: Moved off our pitch
Hi CC
Its amazing how people have the cheek to do such a thing. Most campers I have found to be pretty reasonable, however there are always the exceptions - think you have just one of them!
I've never had this happen in our 20 years of motorhomes.
I think the worse we've had is to find our entrance mat, which was pegged to the ground had grown legs. We found it a few days later near the bins!
Oh and on one occassion my wife left the washing up liquid bottle in the washing up area. When she returned a woman was using it and swore blindly that it was hers and wouldn't give it back. My wife was so annoyed especially as it was the perfect size to fit in the area under the sink in our Topaz and she used to refill each for this reason.
Hope you still had a good trip and 'hot pitching' is not the sign of things to come
John

Words fail me CC
They sound like candidates for the old “Banana stuffed up the exhaust pipe” treatment
Or even the “ Full Monty” ….. “Squirty expanding foam”
Better than upsetting the other half with what you would really like to do……
Don’t mess with us “Oldies”

Re: Moved off pitch.
I agree with you Brian!
They wouldn't mess with me and get away with it.
Unplug their EHU at the most inconvenient times, or remove the guys on their awning in the night.
Seriously, I would be most put out for the cheek and inconvenience, and would have made a point of reporting the matter to reception and to the 'club'.

PS. Banana? We always used a potato.

Re: Moved off our pitch
Luckily, this has never happened to us (fingers crossed) and I'm not sure what I would do if it did.
We all say that we would do this that or the other, but truth be told, it's easy to be brave on a forum but in real life it's not so easy. The kind of people who would do this are either very stupid or very arrogant and after the initial confrontation, pursuing the matter further with them is not likely to get you anywhere (except perhaps the local hospital or police station).
I would certainly have very strong words with the site owners, which could result in something worthwhile -a partial refund or ...?

Re: Moved off our pitch
Thanks all, despite being annoyed at the time we were shocked more than anything and did see a slightly humorous side to it as well in that they kicked us off a pitch when there were at least three others vacant
They really had no idea whatsoever that what they had done was in anyway inconsiderate and the guy even said "you are leaving in the morning anyway aren't you?" it also tickled us that our ASOF flag was right besides their awning and he said to me as I removed it from their now pitch "yes, I didn't want to touch the flag pole in case I damaged it"
Anyway we have put a complaint in writing to Sycamore Lakes but no response as of yet, we were also told no hard standing pitches were available but yet over two nights we witnessed two hardstanding pitches that remained empty the whole weekend, so considering how dysfunctional the reception was I wont hold my breath for a reply.
Glad to see that this kind of thing is quite rare, it's all an education

Re-Moved of pitch
Hi CC
We had our pitch taken over a few years back at the new (not long opened) Caravan and camping club site in Dunbar.
We had left the usual motorhome sign saying, Motorhome using this pitch, ramps and seats left behind, dispite this a tugger owner moved our gear aside and set up camp on our pitch. a few other caravans had set up in nearby pitches.
He told me that he wanted to be near his "pals", as it turned out a better pitch had been vacated nearer the shower block. We moved to that one.
The wardens said to me later, don't worry about it as its to rain heavy tonight and that part of the site is prone to flooding, it rained all night.
I woke up to a beautiful sight of two waterlogged pitches, ankle dip in dirty water, with the caravan owners cleaning up the mess from within their awnings.
I'm a great believer in the saying " what goes around comes around"

Re: Moved off our pitch
Hi there,
I agree with Frank that these people are either arrogant or stupid.
I suggest that a nice smile, a shrug, a shake of the head and "It's not worth my while changing my opinion of you for the sake of a caravan plot!" as you walk away is the best option!
Even the stupid ones will get it in the end!
Best regards,
Ian

Glad you still had a good time CC
Unfortunately the World is full of Idiots ..... the phrase "Don't let the B's get you down" springs to mind.
Happy travelling

Re: Moved off our pitch
We escort all our electric customers to their pitch which normally eliminates this practice................I say normally as we had one pillock who, once we had settled him in, decided to move to a totally different area of the site without asking or informing us. The first we knew of it was when we escorted another customer to this pitch as they had requested it, found said pillock all set up with awning chairs out and a brew on.
He really was not impressed when I made him pack everything back up, and return to his original pitch. He even tried to get me a rollicking by having a word with the boss, but the boss totally agreed with my decision as he is in control of the booking/pitching sheets and knows what a complete pain it is to move a pitch on said sheets.
Too make matters worse I said my usual " Enjoy your stay"..........................
