Travel kettle question
Off for our first night away tomorrow to test the system and get used to our van. Got the sleeping bags out of the loft and found our travel kettle (used to take it on our train holidays).
It is described as 120-240v, 250-1000 watts which means very little to me (I've said before that physics was never my strong point).
Have looked at the C&CC fact sheet on electricity and how to convert volts to amps but it made my head hurt so I'm looking for some advice on if I can use it on hook-up (Delamere Forest is our first camp site) together with the fridge and space heater (diesel and electric) without tripping or will we have to turn off the fan while the kettle boils?
Thanks
Ann

Re: Travel Kettle Question
Hi Ann.
Should be fine.
The kettle will take just over 4 (UK 240V) amps so even if the site has a 5A limit you’re still OK.
If the supply trips (unlikely in my view) just turn off everything else and run the most important thing (i.e. the kettle). Re-setting the trip is easy just push the little twiddley thing (to give it the technical term) on the post up.
If we ever meet you on site we’ll be over for a brew!

I'm sure Delamere has 16amp hook ups so you wll be fine with fridge, water heater fan and kettle. Have a good trial.

Hi All
We are looking at the various kettles (electric) that are on the market. Question has anyone found a decent one? If so what make / where from? Thanks - Mikeyval

Re: Travel kettle question
Hi there,
We consider any kettle to be one of the items we leave at home; and doubly so for an electric kettle!
If we are away from EHU an electric kettle is a useless bit of kit taking up room and weight whereas we always have a saucepan and a gas supply wherever we are.
Best regards,

Re: Travel kettle question
We bought a Pifco P10004 1L Jug kettle
3 year warranty, 915/1080 watts so below the 5 Amp that some sites limit one to. Compact also so easily stored when away from the electrics!

Re: Travel kettle question
No problem with Delamere Forest Site with 1000w appliance so long as the the heating isnt on the 2KW (2000w) setting with the tv etc on.
A good wattage kettle is 750w and these are quite common in accessory shops and some supermarkets. We got our travel toaster (750w) from Tesco

Re: Travel kettle question
I will stick to old school, only like the occasional instant gold Nescafe , not any fancy coffees, each to their own .

Re: Travel kettle question
Your travel kettle will be fine. You will be on 240V and it will be 1000W. If you use it in America or somewhere else shere the voltage is 120V then the kettle will be only 250W (watts is proportional to the square of the voltage). We use a small 750W dual voltage gravelAnn B wrote:Off for our first night away tomorrow to test the system and get used to our van. Thanks for the replies. Have used the kettle many times since my original post - it was when we first got the van in September 2012
