Leisure Battery too high, HELP! Empty Leisure Battery too high, HELP!

Post by mikemelson Tue Nov 12, 2024 12:18 pm

Hooked up on drive, alert on screen "Leisure battery too high 16.6 volts!"

Unhooked mains but power still going in from the panels.

Will this damage the batteries? Advice please??

On a 2024 van, probably the best course of action is to contact the supplying dealer immediately. If it is that high (and stays that high for any length of time) it will damage the leisure battery/batteries.

It is odd though that disconnecting EHU does not return the battery voltage to normal. Is it possible that the source of the excessive voltage is solar? If you cover the panel, does battery voltage return to normal? If so, I would be thinking about confirming with the supplying dealer that the solar panel(s) should be disconnected until the problem can be fixed.

Try resetting the EC. It may be a glitch.

Totally agree plus 16.6v midday at this time of year suggests that the solar controller has failed and is passing the full panel output voltage to the battery.

I think Peter’s suggestion is the most likely but are you able to measure the voltage at the battery terminals with a multimeter? My experience with the Sargent EC700 is that the displayed voltages are often inaccurate, although they normally under-read not over-read, and 16.6V would be a big error.

I did test the batteries at the time with a meter & they read the same 16.6v but for some unknown reason the reading has now dropped to 14.1v.

The van is booked into Marquis on Monday, so maybe they can find something.

By the way, how does one reset the EC?, I'm not with the van at the moment.
