2004 Boxer and no workshop manual Empty 2004 Boxer and no workshop manual

Post by DavidB Sat Nov 09, 2024 10:31 am

I have just done my first search on this site looking for advice and nothing has come up.  So this is partly a request for search guidance but also specific advice on replacing CV joints and wheel bearings.

I have understood from this forum and via Google etc etc that there is no such thing as a workshop manual for my recently acquired Nuevo on 2004 Boxer.  A manual would allow me to judge if this is a possible DIY job or really something very specialised.  I am a mechanical engineer by training so am generally not daunted by DIY unless it’s pretty technical.  So I recently had my timing belt changed by a local garage - much more than I was willing to contemplate.  I asked the mechanic to run a check on the transmission and the advice was to replace the near side wheel bearings and both CV joints.  My search on this site only yielded info on boxer gear boxes.

1.  Can others with experience of this site identify relevant posts from those who may have done this repair and give me a nudge on how to interrogate the site more effectively.

2.  If anyone has done this repair DIY, are there any particular difficulties involved and tips on making the job easier.  I am happy to spend my own time but not at the expense of getting anything spectacularly wrong!

Any thought on either topic would be really appreciated.

I came across this old thread -
https://www.autosleeper-ownersforum.com/t36283-peugeot-boxer-workshop-manuals

The search facility above might reveal more if you input terms such as Peugeot Boxer workshop manual and play around with alternative words, or you could check Haynes manuals by an Internet search. Look at the similar topics listed bottom left of this thread as well.

Thanks for the link - which I had already seen on the forum.  I have made enquiries in a number of directions (on line and via local mechanics) and made no progress except to conclude there is no support for my vehicle.  The only solution seems to be an on line subscription which seem to only be available to professionals.  I was very disappointed when I realised Haynes have nothing like the coverage of old.  I tackle jobs on my Land Rover series 3 with confidence having an old Haynes manual.  I had hoped the Boxer might be covered but nothing I can find so far,

yes Paul.
I had that manual. However had a petrol one same as now.
Nothing to find.i just learn by experience!!
Have used our search function extensively.
Keep Search to one or 2 words I found best.
My experience is to only get a vehicle with OBD.
Thats what is used by the trade.
So my Symphony will be my last  motorhome.

I hope I am not repeating what others have said but it’s not a workshop manual for the motorhome you need rather a manual for the base vehicle. In your case the Peugeot Boxer I presume.
In our case the Rienza is based on a Mk 6 Transit. Other than a workshop  manual I have found the Transit Forum quite useful.

Thanks for the link Paul.  Sadly it looks as if the book is no longer in stock via Amazon.  However, now I know it exists I will try to find a copy.  Assistance much appreciated.
