How incorrect?
10%, 50%?
Always read same temp?

Re: Incorrect temperature reading on dashcluste
For the last year or so my the outside temperature reading on the dashboard has not dropped below 52C, and sometimes climbs higher! Clearly the gauge inside the N/S wing mirror has failed, or some other electronic gremlin has affected then reading.
Frankly, although it's nice to be able to know ocasionally what the outside temperature is, it's only necessary when there's danger of frost. And by then I can tell because the cab is chilly!
In short, I find it funny to tell my wife that it's a nice warm day with an outside temperature of 59C. In Wales!
I can live with it, and avoid the expense of getting it sorted.

Re: Incorrect temperature reading on dashcluste
Think I read somewhere that the filter that burns off the exhaust dust relies on temperature gauge to start the regeneration.
But of course, I could be wrong .

Re: Incorrect temperature reading on dashcluste
Ah. That’s more serious.
But I’d have thought that the dpf would use the engine temperature rather than the ambient air temperature to determine when to burn off?

I'm not sure either, the ambient air temperature should have zero effect on DPF regen imho

Re: Incorrect temperature reading on dashcluste
I mentioned & warned others sometime ago regarding fitting of cheaper aftermarket door mirrors where the temp sensor is either missing or doesn’t work as intended as this is known to cause problems with DPF regenerations (yes it sounds crazy but is true) I was met with responses pretty much saying I was talking cobblers!

Re: Incorrect temperature reading on dashcluste
Well I never! Thank you very much, Peter L, for the link. I am very surprised!
Of course, out I went to peer up under both my mirrors. And I cannot see anything up inside the little hole.
I assume that I still have a sensor in one of the mirrors because - unlike the vehicle in the video - I do have a temperature reading, and it does vary from time to time; but it's wildly inaccurate and shows something which is at least 30C above what it should show.
I'm going to wait until my next MOT / service in February, when any dpf issue should be revealed.
I detect a bill coming...... But thank you and CC for clarifying.

Thanks, Molly. What description should I enter in order to find the sensor on eBay, please?

Re: Incorrect temperature reading on dashcluste
I had the temperature sensor replaced in my wing mirror by a garage who gave me the choice of getting
one for them to fit or they would get one for me. They said do not by a cheap one from off the internet as
from experience they would quote only last five minutes.
