Tyre inflator
Our Mercedes Devon 2008 has out of date fluid provided by the manufacturer with their inflation pump.Looking to replace with a new replacement. However times have moved on since 2008 and there seems to be off the shelve cans suggesting they can do the same thing.Has anyone used these successfully, what product?

Re: Tyre inflator
I agree with Jenks regarding checking the fluid. Managements 58 plate Fiesta has a pump and a can of gunk. When we bought the car two years ago I noted the lack of spare wheel but never thought of checking any further.
As much as we have the car serviced by a reputable local garage I don’t think the pump and fluid would be on the check list. I will check the canister this morning.
As a side note I can remember space saver spare tyres being introduced when I was doing breakdown work. There were questions asked about the safety aspect and advice given to customers regarding speed restrictions after fitting a space saver wheel.
On a couple of occasions owners of cars would not allow us to fit the space saver so we had to recover the car to a tyre centre. Out of hours this caused a few problems of course.

Not wanting to hijack the original thread but to my embarrassment the tyre gunk in managements Fiesta is as issued when the car was new.
Our Saab had room for a full size spare but had a space saver so I bought a full size wheel.

Re: Tyre inflator
I think at Merc prices the one for our Fiesta at about £20 will do for me and chance it being ok.
The tyre inflator in the van has Kia / Hyundai marked on it and it looks identical to the Ford one. My boss gave it to me when I was working on the car terminals. I never got round to buying a can of gunk for it because the van has a full size spare wheel.

Re: Tyre inflator
If a tyre is repairable the AA will carry out a temporary repair on the roadside.

This is probably better than mucking about with tyre sealant which doesn't always work. If tyre sealant is to be used, a couple of cheap aerosol cans of the stuff might do the trick.
Does anyone have experience of using tyre sealant on their motorhome?
I'm glad I have a spare wheel & jack and wish the car did even if it was only a space saver.

Re: Tyre inflator
I know this is my car, but hope it makes the point..
When we first got it it had the Volvo repair kit, the goo, air compressor etc all in a nice moulded polystyrene moulding in what can be the space for a proper spare wheel.
I investigated this as the compartment was clearly designed to take a proper spare wheel, as this is the ultra low emissions version of the V50, I was informed it was done to save weight, the other V50's have a wheel.
Now, I am of the opinion that if the remains of your tyre are scattered all over the last 300m or so behind you, then an aerosol fix probably won't work....
So, bought this one online,
Or similar, circa £100, incl the wheel brace, jack and the space saver wheel.
Here's mine now, should cater for most events!!

Re: Tyre inflator
If only I could fit one of those in my car but there is no space for it. When my car had its last service I was advised to rotate the front n/s with the rear o/s as there was some uneven wear on the front n/s. I said how am I to do that without a spare or a jack? The receptionist conceded the point. I suppose I could use an old general purpose jack and a couple axle stands I have at home but what a faff. In stead I'm going to wait until the tyre needs replacement as for a couple of years its had a very slow puncture which is too slow for Kwikfit to do anything about it but not too slow to keep triggering the TPMS! It does force me though to keep checking the pressures which is a good thing.
