Door stay strut
Can others clarify something for me, our Broadway’s habitation door if you are not careful will fly back & come to an abrupt stop, watching a recent video on YouTube I think it was a Nuevo they showed the door opening so far then having some resistance like a soft close action, so I’m wondering if our strut needs replacing? I’m just a little concerned if the wind catches it when opening & it slams back against the van, can anyone confirm how theirs works?

Re: Door stay strut
From new I would say ours has had limited effect, especially when windy.

Re: Door stay strut
I can’t remember how our Nuevo door shut but I can remember our last Broadway closed back to a point where it met some resistance then a further push it would almost lock into a secondary position

Re: Door stay strut
Ours failed during our first year of ownership, there was some suggestion at the time of a batch of them being faulty although I can't confirm that. Rather than using the dealer (who had been rather unhelpful) I contacted the supplier directly who sent me a replacement FOC, make of that what you will. The replacement is much better, and does provide some resistance, but we are extra careful opening and closing the door in windy conditions.

Re: Door stay strut
I replace the strut on my Gloucester in 2022. Old one had no resistance and wind would slam it closed though it did limit the opening extent. Replacement bout from SGS at considerably less than AS wanted . Works brilliantly resist winds.

Re: Door stay strut
Thanks for that Peter, if ours it not working as it should which I’m fairly certain it’s not, then hopefully we can get it replaced under warranty but if not that link will come in handy.

Re: Door stay strut
I don't know if the strut on our Nuevo is working correctly but its function appears to be to keep the open door open in light winds. The strut gently pushes and holds the door in the fully open position. That said, we try not to let the door swing into the fully open position with speed as the door's momentum could over-stress the hinges. Like Askit, in windy conditions we take particular care and when we want to keep the door open, I have a cord I use to secure the near side front external cab door handle to the habitation door internal plastic handle.

Re: Door stay strut
Exactly the same as Caraman. The cord stops the door slamming when wind direction is from front to rear; the stay is meant to protect it when wind is from rear to front, but we always try to take great care when opening because my faith in the stay is limited!

Re: Door stay strut
Our habitation door strut was hanging off when we picked the Broadway up new. I had to point it out to the salesman and he got the workshop staff to ‘fix’ it. One of many issues but won’t mention them here.
Recently, the metal stay was broken when a gust of wind caught it. The pin holding the slide at the top of the door came away. I’ve tried to fix it backin using Locktite glue but doubt this will hold for too long.
Has anyone purchased or do you know where this part can be obtained? I’m reluctant to pay the high prices that Autosleeper charge. I’m not sure who manufactures these door units but a part number would be useful if anyone knows it.

Re: Door stay strut
I don't know what make of door you have but both Hartal strut and Metallarte strut are listed on AS spares catalogue. No idea of prices but Justcaravanparts list the Hartal at £60 but out of stock.
Part numbers are Hartal 97 0145 9901
Metallarte M10001770

This looks exactly like the stay I have. Current price quoted on your link is £33.99.
AlanI’ll see how my repair holds up but will make a note in case I need to replace.

Re: Door stay strut
I’ve just checked back in my email archive and I actually bought this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182409165586?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=E4Id9KjJRHu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=GRj6j5xWQIy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
It was £22 in 2017.
