Advice re Caravan Guard insurance
Sorry to write another insurance post, my renewal came through from cmc and I had to update them ref a change of job. This resulted in a £300 price rise? They obtained a further quote which would switch me from Ageas to Highway. I’ve looked at Highway reviews and there appears to be some customer dissatisfaction when making a claim. I realise I shouldn’t focus too much on reviews but nevertheless their rating is affected by this.
I’ve shopped around and best price is with caravan guard using AXA. I can’t see anything to put me off but on the basis you get what you pay for I can’t understand how they can halve the price of the majority’s of other quotes.
Any experience of claims with caravan guard or Highway by members on here that might help with my decision appreciated

Re: Advice re Caravan Guard insurance
Been insured with Caravan guard since we bought the van in 2020, fortunately haven't had to claim so can't comment on that, quotes have always been competitive and reviews positive. Happy to recommend. CMC supporting major head office infrastructure so lots of overheads, Caravan guard does one thing with less overheads to support. Cover also includes recovery.

Re: Advice re Caravan Guard insurance
Insurance is a minefield with no sense or reason. I've been with Highway through various brokers and the same cover can be hundreds of pounds apart. 2 years ago CAMC quoted with Highway at £200 more than I got with Scenic (leisure vehicle specialist division of Swinton) . Highway are part of LV which get good reviews so I can't get why Highway should get poorer reviews.
I've been doing the usual ring around for my car insurance recently and getting a price a month ago from CAMC was the lowest I have been quoted (I lied about renewal date as I just wanted an idea of price), I requoted this week and price has gone up £40 (both with Ageas) so as I said, no rhym or reason when it comes to insurance.

Caravan Guard recovery is any size … worth considering if you have a larger vehicle as some insurances
have limits.
have limits.

Re: Advice re Caravan Guard insurance
I have used Caravan Guard since 2021 on my previous VW T5 camper and now on my Duo since last year.
Their quote always undercuts everyone else in my experience and they throw in breakdown cover.
They are a little picky on what type of steering wheel lock you use and only approve three specific ones.
I can not comment on how they perform when making a claim however, I have seen positive reviews on various forums.

I had never heard of a company giving discount on anything other than a tracker but I've found what Caravan Guard approve, not massive discount only 5%....cibaker wrote:

Re: Advice re Caravan Guard insurance
I’ve renewed with cmc I called them and pointed out that we didn’t have 4 vehicles at our home address but actually had 3, this reduced the policy quote by over £150 so became competitive. The lady on the other end of the phone was as shocked as I was!

That's interesting as I'd always assumed the only reason they ask is to see if the can flog you insurance for those too, didn't realise it could affect premium too.Toffee wrote:I’ve renewed with cmc I called them and pointed out that we didn’t have 4 vehicles at our home address but actually had 3, this reduced the policy quote by over £150 so became competitive. I wonder if it matters whether you're insured to drive the other vehicles or not?
