Interesting question. Personally I don't like the Whale system and much prefer to pour water into the lockable filler. I find that provided the habitation system inside the van is switched on, the system takes on water fine, without airlock issues. If the habitation system is not switched on at the time of filling, the pump can go on for ages before it settles down. I am always a little anxious when the pump goes on for a few minutes in case it blows a fuse or fails completely.
