LPG on new Symbol
Red warning light on the lpg gauge has been on for a few days, thought I was about to run out, so drove a fair distance out of my way to top up.
Intensely annoyed to find it would only take 11ltrs, supposed to take 25ltrs, that Gas-It gauge has got to be a joke!
Mind you the handover guy at Marquis did say “The Weather Forecast is more reliable than that gauge”.
Surely there must be a way to monitor the amount of gas on board, have others experienced this problem?
I’m seriously thinking of removing the spare wheel, having it mounted on a rear door & fitting a 52ltr tank in the space.
Anyone out there done this?

Re: LPG on new Symbol
Although it has a 25 ltr tank it will only fill to 80% for safety, so maximum is 20 litres. The guages have always been only an estimate .

52 litre tank! How much gas do you need?
Don’t forget you would probably invalidate your AS warranty and would need to tell your insurance company if you fitted the bigger tank.

At least it is wrong in the right way, better telling you it is empty when still half full than other way round
Sorry just noticed this question has been asked twice, should have replied on other thread to reduce confusion. Prime example of why questions shouldn't be duplicated

I've had that false red indicator once and it almost seems as though the guage had stuck. As soon as I put some LPG into the tank it started reading correctly again.

Just done 2 weeks vast majority off grid and with cabin heating, hot water and fridge on one 6kg bottle.
That's 11 LTRs.
2O is more than adequate for virtually any needs and, if in EU, east to find and top up.....

I've got the early gauge which only has 4 green lights and the red. It was showing 4 green when we went to Southport, did 3 nights with heating on each night and water an hour morning and evening plus fridge, when we left we had 3 green lights. Just done 3 more nights but no heating this time but we did use oven and it showed only 1 green light, topped up yesterday and it only took 10.5 litres. At least it always reads lower than it actually is.

Re: LPG on new Symbol
We've been recording it since July when we got the van. On ours, red light usually means it's down to about half and time to think about filling up. Up to that point we monitor it but don't worry about it. The last time we went onto the red, there was nowhere to fill up so we carried on using it. Did another two nights using heating, water, fridge and cooking. When we did fill up, it only took 13ltrs!
Long and short, don't worry about it!

In the case of gas gauges, this may help....
If, when filling, no more goes in, it's full ( circa 20ltrs)
If when lighting the hob nothing happens, it's empty.
Anything in between is pure guess??

Ian, I’m usually in agreement with you but in this case I’m not
My gauge is as inaccurate as the rest but importantly it is reliable in its inaccuracy. What I mean is that once you get to know your gauge, it is easy to have a fair idea of how much you have left.

Re: LPG on new Symbol
Since having our tank replaced last year due to a leak, the new gauge has been totally acurate, it's a gastore one! You can turn the gas off from the display unit.
No more guess work!
