Noises in the night ?
Hi, we have a 2002 peugeot autosleeper symbol, we have spent the last few months on camp sites plugged into ehu, whilst lying awake at night in the silence, I am aware of a small regular-ish clunk noise. Would or could this be caused by ehu, and would this be a normal noise ?

Re: Noises in the night ?
My suspicion would be the (habitation) water pump being very briefly activated, caused by a slight leak in the water system. Easy to check: turn off the water pump overnight and see if the noise has been eliminated.

Thanks Cymro, but definitely not the water pump, it's never left on

If you have the heating/hot water on overnight, I would suspect it’s the thermostat cutting in. You’d not normally notice it by day.

Could it be a relay? Mains relays are sometimes audible.

Thanks v8oholic, yes it sounds as it would have that type of sound, would a power relay cause concern switching or is that what it's designed for

I hear our fridge click on / off - but that's a quiet click, not what you've described as a "clunk". That's more substantial.
Am baffled! You say that the clunk is "regular-ish" - but how frequent?

Re: Noises in the night ?
The only reason I thought of it was because I can make a clunking relay noise in my van by going into the system menu of the EC700 and recalibrating the ammeter. You get one clunk when it shuts everything off, then another when it all comes back up again afterwards. Obviously this doesn't have any relevance to your issue, except that it shows that it is possible to hear mains relays clunking or clicking sometimes.Johnandkerry wrote:Thanks v8oholic, yes it sounds as it would have that type of sound, would a power relay cause concern switching or is that what it's designed for
Apart from that, I've never heard a similar noise. But I wonder if it was the mains hookup going off momentarily and coming back on again. If it happens in more than one campsite, then probably not.

Is the fresh water tank full? Float cut off valve, solenoid?
We get owls flying into our side widows, they think its an open barn !!
A bit more of a thud sound !!

We had something similar, turned out to be water tank was full and the high level float switch was triggering the cutout relay with the slightest movement of the van! As mentioned by someone else!

You could run off a couple of litre of water and see if the frequency changes! Might just be enough to take it out of switching zones!

Well, all last night the ehu was off across the site, the noise was not there apart from 1 click, I think I am satisfied in my mind the fluctuations of the site ehu must trip a relay. It is 8.48am moroccan time and still the ehu is off. A big thanks for all replies

Maybe a power spike or something. Hard to guess if it's the van or the site, until you move to a different site.
