Does anyone know if the tunnel authorities require me to do anything with the on board gas on my Warwick Duo, I have read on other forums about climbing underneath the van to close a valve, seems a bit extreme. Advice would be great fully accepted.

Are we talking about standard bottles (calor, campingaz) or an fitted LPG tank?

If you have an LPG tank you are not allowed in the tunnel at all as far as I know. We have an LPG car (which I know is not allowed) but I am told the same rules apply if the tank is only used for heating/cooking rather then powering the engine.

Bottles must be turned off - I believe this is actually checked by tunnel staff.

Just had a look and I appear to be wrong about 'fixed' LPG tanks.

Interesting page:

Thanks for the link Steve, interesting and good to know I can only be 80 percent full. Mind you the price difference encourages us to go across with minimal gas anyway. Cheers again,

Hi Steve, A bit off the Topic, but I think the Tunnel Regs have been explained very well, so I hope you don't mind me hi-jacking the post, as you mentioned the fact, that you have a car which runs on LPG.

I am in the process of having LPG fitted to my Boxer Petrol engined A/S(next Mon). Have you any advice you could give me, before I finally commit. It would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Andy up!

Hi Andy,
We are on our third LPG car. The first was a bit of an old banger that we picked up cheap - not a very high quality conversion but it was cheap motoring for a couple of years after we sorted a few bugs.

The other 2 have been 'factory' converted vauxhall astras. Being a factory conversion they are really nicely installed.

We love the low running cost and LPG is readily available where we are in mid-Wales. I know the cost of the conversion and the quality of the conversions varies a lot and the 2 do not necessarily go together. My father has had 2 vehicles converted. He paid the best part of 2k for the first and had a lot of problems; he paid approx 1k for the second and has been delighted! So my only advice would be to shop around and get feedback from people who have had the conversion done at the installer you choose.

Also, make sure you check out the insurance implication. Not normally a problem with a professional installer AFAIK. But worth checking...

Hope it goes well! Should save you a shed load on fuel costs! Happy motoring!
