Symbol 2017 Wash Room Door
Today I carried out an improvement that I have been contemplating for a while.
The problem was the wash room door only opened just past square before the it locked on the frame because of the piano hinge being located too much into the door. Also the door was scraping the carpet which meant you couldn't put a mat or a towel in that area to protect the carpet and be able to open the wash room door.
So, I took the door off and removed 15mm off the bottom. I the moved the hinge 3.5mm away from the lock (to the right and up 5mm to avoid the existing screw holes. The original screw holes were still covered by the hinge. I refitted the door with the hinge on 3.5mm away from the opening and up 5mm higher.
So the door was in the same place but the hinge was moved 3.5mm away from the door and 5mm higher.
The door now opens fully with plenty of clearance underneath.

I did this to allow a mat on the floor when stepping out of the shower room but be careful how much you cut
off the door. If you cut too much off you will go past the bottom rail and end up into the hollow part of the door.
I did not do this but more luck than judgement.

That's something I thought about - after the event. I got away with it cutting off only 15mm. I recommend scoring the cut line with a Stanley knife to prevent the brittle covering cracking into the retained part of the door when sawn.

I have had my symbol nearly 5 years, hatted that toilet door, it’s always in the way, I removed it altogether and pull the curtain across as the door, it’s only me and my dog, so no worries with privacy
