Happy 2024 from East Lothian
We are Billy and Diane, recent purchasers of an Autosleeper Stratford 2011. Had one trip away to Berwick and the ferry booked for France in the summer. We've owned a caravan in the past so know a bit about this type of holiday, however the technology has definitely moved on a lot since the 90s . Looking forward to lots of weekends and bigger holidays exploring Scotland and beyond .

Hi and welcome Billy and Diane.
We're usually based across the Forth from you in Fife but are currently down in Berkshire.
We also usually go to France once or twice a year. Which ferry route are you planning on crossing?

Hi Roger and thanks. I might try picking your brains later then:wink02:. We've booked Newhaven to Dieppe. We're going to head towards Brittany, probably North coast, as it's our first time with the van. Been a good few times with the car but not via this crossing. We have to go school holidays because I teach, so currently wrestling with booking sites vs turning up.
Enjoy your time in Berkshire.

Re: Happy 2024 from East Lothian
That's one route we've never done.
For many years we used Dover - Calais ferry or Folkstone - Coquelles tunnel but got fed up with the hassle plus we'd done pretty much every possible site and attraction down the northern part of the French coast on the channel.
Now we go over Poole-Cherbourg and back St Malo-Portsmouth which is also an easy M3/M27 trip for us this end rather than fighting around the M25/M26/M20 route.
I was going to ask if you are aware of the ACSI discount card which saves us loads on site fees during the low non-peak periods but that wouldn't work for you having to go in the high season unfortunately. We're also lucky that we never book sites, just turn up, which again wouldn't work when you go during the busy holiday period.
If you need any suggestions for good spots for days or short breaks over in the Kingdom of Fife though, ask away!
