Cleaning the Roof
Hello
I would welcome some advice on how to safely access the roof for the pre-winter clean. Is there a safe platform or ladder that you would recommend? I am fairly fit but want to avoid a fall Thank you "Twins on Tour"

I use three way ladder and extending brush, can also reach quite a lot of the roof using skylights for access

I use East Europeans!
Lots of them, good on roofs.
Seriously, actually I do, local hand car wash, just need to tell them exactly what to do, especially re the solar panel!!!

Tall step ladders, I wash the roof every wash and use a tooth brush on the mound growing on the sealant. Sad I know !

Re: Cleaning the Roof
I bought this years ago, principally for cleaning the van roof but it has come in handy for all sorts of DIY projects since.

Re: Cleaning the Roof
Thank you all for your replies plenty of choice here.
Doing some cleaning from the inside sounds good, the platform looks good too.

Re: Cleaning the Roof
I have a telescopic brush that attaches to the hose. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] (though not this precise model).
I bought it ages ago for, I think, house window cleaning, but it's turned out to be useful for all sorts of things, including on the van, to reach above the windscreen from the ground etc. as well as to touch the parts of the roof that other sponges cannot reach, without having to move the ladder too often.
If getting one now, I'd probably look for one with a soap dispenser. Though I guess one can probably attach such a thing at the hose end... (he says, heading off to Amazon...)

Re: Cleaning the Roof
Very pleased to find a platform with steps at the Cepsa car wash we visited today in Mojacar, Spain. We find quite a few commercial car washes set up for larger vehicles while on our travels. Solar panels pulling lots more now :-)

Re: Cleaning the Roof
I have one of the Henchman step ladders. Three legs, all adjustable. My motorhome is kept in the road outside the house although there is a small apron in front of the garage which I make use of when washing the vehicle. There is no level area at all and I became fed up with trying to balance on a traditional four legged step ladder. The thought of a broken hip at my age did not appeal. I do also have a tower scaffold but the stepladder is far easier to use unless you are doing a job in one position. These ladders are not cheap but the quality is excellent. There is also a Japanese equivalent but I went for the UK made product. Very useful round the garden as well. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] if you want a look. Usual disclaimer, no connection with the manufacturer apart from a satisfied customer

Re: Cleaning the Roof
Hi, we use a ladder with foam insulation taped on to prevent damage and an extending brush as previously described. There's always some algae around our roof mounted aerial so we open the roof light to its maximum and use it to hand clean the area.

I think the Cepsa Steps in Majocar, Spain sounds the perfect solution !
Maybe next year.
Thanks to all for the helpful tips.

Re: Cleaning the Roof
I have one of those telescopic ladders, a bit like [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], which has rubber at the top step and means I can lean it against the van.
(We got it originally when we used a roof box on top of our T5 van, and needed to carry something with us to allow us to reach it!)
