Bed struts
Good evening all. Any advice on the two base struts on the bed please. The small back rest area that pulls up is not staying up on my Kingham. Its is only 6 years old and the van has had an easy life with the previous owner. Do both struts need replacing, or am I failing to find a clip to keep the base from moving back into the flat position? Thanks!

Re: Bed struts
If they are a pair of gas struts then it is best to replace the pair, with ones of a similar force.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea of a good place online to purchase and do you buy by length or strength? Thanks again.

Re: Bed struts
I have no experience of replacing the struts you need to replace on your Kingham. I have only done it on my car boot. The size and force are often printed on the side of the strut. I don't know how your's are fixed, but on my car boot and on the bench seat of my Broadway there is a clip ring around the socket at either end that can be eased back with a small screw driver that then allows the end to be slipped off the ball that the end is fixed to.
I would expect that someone far wiser than I will be along shortly to give you proper advice, based on real knowledge of what you are trying to do.

This company in Derby will make any gas strut you like

They can advise based on the part number if you need to change the rating based on your application. For example, they made some uprated ones for the drop down bed in my Autosleepers Mirage when I replaced the original mattress for a much heavier hybrid one
They were a real pig to fit though as in my case they need to be compressed before fitting and that needed some force! The actual ends were just a spring clip as described above like on a car boot lid.

Re: Bed struts
A word of warning re gas strut spring clips, they are capable of incredibly long flights and are then totally impossible to find.
They do not have to be removed if you try, see above, all they need is to be rotated which unlocks them
See video...

Re: Bed struts
I've been considering this very thing on our Kingham too. However, I'm pretty sure that replacing the struts will not solve the problem of the bed not remaining in the raised position.
When the bed end was raised, we used to hear the ratchet system clicking, which is what held it up (three different heights from memory). We no longer hear the clicking of the mechanism, so, that's what I think has failed.
I'm likely just to carry some sort of support to hold the bed up - we don't often use it like that, so, it's no big problem.

Got my Hab door strut from them and it actually works, stops the breeze closing the door too unlike the OEM one.

Re: Bed struts
Thank you all for the help and advice. I will look at the struts one evening this week and try and work out a solution.
