Roof rails
Hi
I have roof rails fitted on my Warwick XL, are these load bearing? Has anyone fitted a rack/roof box? Also has anyone fitted a ladder for roof access?

Re: Roof rails
Unless A/S have changed things (which I doubt very much) then the answer is no! A couple of members have fitted load bearing rails and I’m sure they will be along soon.

Re: Roof rails
I believe the roof rails are only ornamental.
Fitting an access ladder to rear doors could be tricky and you need to check your handbook for the max load the doors can support.

Re: Roof rails
I’m 13st TW and there is no way I would consider hanging off the doors!
I don’t know the specs though as you mention.

Snap, I am 13st and a few pounds also, I did stand on the roof when I fitted the solar panel with no sign of dents, but when I grabbed the rails I realised they we only for show .Dbvwt wrote:I’m 13st TW and there is no way I would consider hanging off the doors!

Re: Roof rails
The fitted roof rails are just cosmetic and should not be used as a of rack a all they are only fastened with screws and a blob of sealant, thurle make a purpose built roof rack full length of the van and the fixing brackets are already on the van roof , different bracket will have to be purchased to fit the wind out awning
I have a ladder fitted to the back door and a full length rack fitted also

Re: Roof rails
That ladder looks very impressive Chris
Would I be correct in that it needs to be supported by the bumper rather than just hanging off the door? If that is the case, do you need to release some kind of bracket before opening the rear door?

For making the camper look good is best removed
Now you have holes in the roof makes it harder to clean
Can’t say they do have any good points .sorry maybe the scrap money[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

It is just bolted top and bottom to the door, the door open the same as with out the ladder fitted, it holds my weight easily and never moves
It’s great for cleaning the solar panels

Nice ladder Chris, I like the way it goes round the number plate. Where did you get it?

I was looking at one of those Glyne, looks like you have the magnetic fixing kit too! Amazon charging over £400 though put me off, I need to shop around - would be great for washing the roof etc.

Re: Roof rails
the fixing kit 301405 is now around the £100.00 + pound a lot more then I paid .I needed this to put the kayak on the roof .
when I was away in june a camper had done damage to the roof and I said you need to tape over to stop any wet in the damaged area.
he said I would need a ladder I then said I have a ladder he looked a bit shocked I then sealed over the damage using my ladder

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]So the fixing kit can also be used to hang items with the extra fixings in the picture . So high cost but more then 1 use

Re: Roof rails
My Warwick Duo has just had its first year service at Derby Motorhomes, one of the faults to be resolved was a dark substance leaking into the first overhead cupboard to the right of the sink, it turned out to be a leak from an anchor point of the roof rails.
