Hello everyone,

At last a fabulous spell of sunny weather out west. We are intending to book Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth. Does anyone know whether you can arrive at the ferry terminal the previous evening and park overnight.

Thanks

There is a CAMC site 10 mins up the road that has specific ferry pitches allowing out of hours arrival and departure from the site.

In addition to the Rookesbury Park CAMC site near Fareham we have used Carefree Nurseries CL near Titchfield.  Both were good.  There are other CLs in the area which we haven't used.  I have heard of people wild camping on the car park at Port Solent but that's not for us.

Pretty sure cannot stay in ferry port. Port Solent car park is a well used overnight stop. I am there often ( to restaurants) and always seems to be a couple of vans there. There are parking signs which give telephone number to ring if intending to stay overnight. Nice spot for evening stroll a beer or a meal. Good weatherspoons if your into them. As already said there is no shortage of CL or 5van sites.

We use The Spinney at Alresford, 1/2 hr or so away. Lovely town, good basic site.

The turn off before the ferry terminal on the M27(?) is a huge P&R and was an excellent day stop and great easy access to Portsmouth, in itself an interesting place to pass the day.

UNTIL the deep thinkers of the Council put a height barrier on it! They have been emailed re this as was the Chamber of Commerce, the only ones to reply btw.....So now, potentially 50 motorhomes per ferry, now no longer use the P&R, buy lunch or whatever in the town. We are surrounded by   censored! censored!! Even worse, the height barrier is invisible until you are in place ready to go under it, so now you have to reverse back, annoying all the car folks and using diesel which the adjacent LEZ is intended to avoid!!!!

So no we NEVER visit Portsmouth, a double whammy as it is now a LEZ which, fortunately, starts after the ferry terminal, but also means that it is now impossible for less then E6 vans to go to the IOW without a LEZ fine.......( I am fairly sure...)

Morning,

Thanks for the information. Carefree Nurseries a convenient spot for an early ferry but fully booked so checking in to a CL near Winchester.

Have to be up a bit earlier.

Thanks again.
