Usb Port
The usb port on my Warwick Duo has no live feed when the ignition is switched off. Does anyone know if it can be made live when the ignition is off?

Ditto, and a right pain too. I shall watch this thread with interest. So far we have not read of a way of doing it and, given the plethora of wires around under there, are rather loathe to start tinkering.
It does seem a curious thing to have wired it up like that though.

Re: Usb Port
I presume its part of the Peugeot installation and fed from the vehicle battery. Disconnecting it when the ignition is off stops you discharging the starter battery.
I would install a usb port on the habitation circuitry, the simplest way being to plug an adaptor into one of the existing 12v outlet sockets.

Assuming we're writing about the same USB port Peter, its designed so you can plug in an MP3 player and play the contents through the radio. This is fine as you travel but, as soon as you stop and turn off the ignition, there is silence. Irritating if , like us, you listen to audio books and want to finish off a chapter.

Isn't there an intermediate ignition key position between off and ign that powers auxiliary circuits?. I have one on Mercedes, Vauxhall and Mazda that suggest an industry standard?

Re: Usb Port
On our van a 2013 Peugeot its full ignition or no power. So its a switched live instead of a permanent live . It must be doable ?Peter Brown wrote:Isn't there an intermediate ignition key position between off and ign that powers auxiliary circuits?. Re: Usb Port
Is this USB a power feed or a data feed to the radio? If the latter should it not work provided the radio is on?

Both I think, in that it charges the MP3 player as well as feeding data from it to the cab radio. It only works when the ignition and radio are both on.PLOUGHLIN wrote:Is this USB a power feed or a data feed to the radio?
This is the first van that we have had with it fitted ( 2014 Broadway with probably a 2013 Peugeot engine).

Peter its data feed only. There is no power supplied from that connector to charge any device plugged into it. All it does is allow an Ipod or Iphone to play music. But only when full ignition is on.Quilter wrote:Both I think, in that it charges the MP3 player as well as feeding data from it to the cab radio. I stand corrected. I was sure that my MP3 player ( one of the original Phillips Go Gear ones) had the " charging" bar throbbing last time I used it in that port.

Re: Usb Port
I'm pretty sure that the usb port also acts as a charger when the engine is running as my ipod was being charged when I was using this whilst driving along, but I would be interested to know if this is not the case. I did discuss this matter with Peugeot dealership and they said that it was to stop the battery discharging. If this is the case then why allow the radio and CD player to work when the ignition is off. Anyway when we are on electrical hook up the discharging issue isn't a problem.

When Peugeot designed the Boxer it was for van use. Only vans converted into motorhomes have EHU.
I plugged my Garmin Nuvi into that connection via a USB to Mini USB cable and it conked out when the battery died. So in my van there is no power for charging the device.
Its the same with the radio shut off after 20 minutes. Its done to save the battery. Of course in the menu it can be extended to up to 3 hours but the same logic was/is applied.

Garmin use the USB port on their satnavs in a non-standard way, so it's not conclusive from that. It may be that the USB connection was able to provide power to the Nuvi but the Nuvi was not connecting it internally (my understanding is that Garmin use a specific method of signalling so that the satnav can distinguish between a connection to a charger and a connection to a PC).
IMO it would be very, very unusual for someone to implement a USB socket without the 5V power rails present and usable as a charging power source, as they are part of the USB specification.

Re: Usb Port
The best way IMO would be to wire it directly from the VB via a fuse (10A) and switch. You need to be able to disconnect it otherwise it would drain the battery as it converting the 12v to 5v whilst powered.
My Warwick Duo came with two 12v sockets, as standard, in the dash and I converted one to a dual USB, 2.1 and 1 amp, for charging an Ipad. I wasn't bothered about it being permanently live so haven't wired it to the VB. There was a thread on MHF for doing it through.

Re: Usb Port
Thanks to all, I hear what you say re using the usb port as a charger but that's not what I want to use it for. I wanted to be able to use the existing usb port as a media player whilst I was parked up without the ignition on.

Re: Usb Port
If it is an auxiliary audio input to the radio I can't understand there being no power to the socket when the radio is on. My car has such a socket and all my music is on a usb stick that needs power to function. Power comes on when the radio comes on and the music on the stick is playable whether ignition on or off.

Re: Usb Port
Exactly Peter: it does seem an odd way for it to have been wired up and clearly, from your experience, it could have been wired up so that at least it turned off, with the radio, after 20 minutes running on the leisure battery. It isn't like that however.Peter Brown wrote:If it is an auxiliary audio input to the radio I can't understand there being no power to the socket when the radio is on. Like Hat004, we don't want it as a charger- though it is useful, on longer trips, if the MP3 is charging as it plays - but it would be useful to plug in the TV so that we get decent sound from it or to continue to listen to the end of an audiobook when we arrive somewhere.
