Solar charging for 1999 Symphony

We are (as of today) proud owners of a 1999 Peugeot Symphony. I'd like to add the ability to charge the leisure battery via solar. Does it matter that its a old van? I'm guessing electricity still works the same way, so I'm assuming that's not an issue. 

I'm not sure whether a portable set up is the best or should I go for a roof mounted version? 

I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience of this and can recommend a type/brand to investigate.
