VW Trooper and Porta Potty Empty VW Trooper and Porta Potty

Post by Spoonvet Sun Apr 23, 2023 4:21 pm

Hello - I'm relocating to a new job in Edinburgh and will need my own vehicle for to and from work. My Duetto is very lovely but was looking to change up anyway. So I'm looking for a smaller van I can use day to day. Seen a lovely Trooper near here and it ticks all the boxes - but expensive! - but no loo. Does a portable toilet - any advice on different brands please - fit under the seat at the rear when you open the back door? Or what do other folk do?

Buy one with a proper loo!
Never have seen the VW ,in particular, vans popularity with none or porta potty....

Duetto + Bike? You lost me there?

Topaz - yup looked a few and a possible option. I like the thought of a VW with a pop top - easier around the city.

VW s hold their value For one person I would go for the solid sided flip up roof Trident under 5m in length and came with a portie pottie in a cupboard under the sink area I think. We had the Renault RV 50 version for 8 yrs with our family of 4. The boys slept outside in a pup tent when on sites!

As Frederic says, it's possible to fit a PortaPotti in a Trooper (as in a Trident) in the floor-level cupboard under the sink area. It probably won't help to know the make/model that A/S originally used, as I'm fairly sure it's no longer made. But I'm pretty sure that there is a current model that will fit (e.g. the smallest Thetford Qube).

As others have mentioned the loo fits in the cupboard next to the fridge. Per    [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] the earlier models had the Elsan 238 and later models had the Thetford 235 / 335.

I have the Elsan in my 92 Trooper it’s a small loo and it’s a near perfect fit in the cupboard. It’s so tight that the door has to be folded flat back to the units to get the loo in or out and the loo lid touches the top of the cupboard. I can’t comment on the Thetford.

Autosleeper obviously didn’t want to waste a mm of space!

If you can’t get an original, then I can only advise that the try before buy (just to be clear, I’m talking about the fit, not the function ) or measure very carefully.

We bought a 2014 Trooper at Christmas.
The cupboard option wont work with the sliding doors. (Later models)
I can measure the boot area which I think would be the best place if it would help.

These dimensions are for my 2014 T5.1
Width 87cm
Height 34 cm with table removed or 26cm with the table in it's storage space. I think that some stow these behind the drivers seat.
Depth 45cm.

Hope this is helpful

great work and thank you.

I'm going down all avenues at the moment - the VW van prices are tasty to say the least!

Couldn't agree more on the price.
We previously had a Nuevo and a couple of Symbols. You really do get more for your money but I would say that the VW is more of a daily driver. Very car like to drive and a touch more economical.
To be honest we only needed a day van so the VW really suits.

thank you all for input - after research I can't justify the high prices so will hang onto my Duetto - it works well and I can buy a small car for travel at a fraction of camper prices!

For those of you still pondering where the loo is stored a Thetford porta-potti 335 does indeed fit snugly into the cupboard under the sink. Its served us well over the last 5yrs though each night time visit is an adventure. I suggest you pull it out and place in front of the fridge before making up the bed.
