Filthy grey waste tap protection
Am seeking an ingenious solution or maybe something simple I haven't thought of ....
Our grey waste drain tap gets covered in road grime and muck which makes emptying a dirty job. I could use gloves but would rather try a preventive cure to save the tap. I've thought of securing a plastic bag over the tap and am currently thinking of trying to fashion a cover from an appropriately sized plastic bottle/container.
Any other bright ideas/suggestions appreciated.

Fix a flap of rubber , something like an old mud flap in front of the tap fixed to the underside of the van floor if possible
Or just leave it open all the time like some do Only joking

A battery powered pressure washer to clean the tap before touching - I actually did that with my Worx last time we came home as the tap(s) were caked with about 3mm of mud - as was the exhaust pipe. The side of the van wasn't too bad following the recent addition of front wheel flaps.

I wouldn't say my tap is clean but I've bolted on extensions to my rear mud flaps which might help a bit. Similarly I've fitted front mud flaps.

Different layout but I went for the flexible pipe and lift it up and under held by a spring clip. Mainly because of the risk of knocking the tap off getting over the drawbridge in to Hog Castle but it stays clean when I open it to drip out on site overnight.....

Thanks Guys,
IanH - your suggestion went down like a lead balloon!
Have mud flaps which help but not enough
Like the idea of an electric release but bit of a faff, cost etc and something else to go wrong!
Will continue with my germ of an idea and if it works will let you all know, if not I may be strangely silent....
Thanks all

Re: Filthy grey waste tap protection
After this weekend arriving on site hand having a dirty waste tap my comments have now changed to man up ! It’s a bit of muck you can wash your hands after it’s not going to kill you the same as I have just had to do

You wanted bright ideas - how about wearing a pair of yellow Marigolds?

I don't use marigolds but I do clean the outside of the van after a mucky journey using a bucket and water. This always includes the windows and doorstep and could easily include the drain taps if they warranted it.

Re: Filthy grey waste tap protection
I am not averse to getting my hands mucky doing this job. I am averse to being in that situation with no wash facility available. The same applies to foul waste cassettes where no personal hygeine facility is available at the dump station.

Beneath our cassette is a tupperware box with antiseptic wipes in it.

Re: Filthy grey waste tap protection
I feel there is a bit of Q.E.D. here, not keen to use waste tap if no cleaning facilities available, but waste tap is attached to moho which has water, sinks etc to provide hand washing facilities
