Battery Replacement
Ordered a starter battery from Halfords and got them to fit it at home as the one in the van was completely dead (some fool forgot to turn the fridge off and left the vehicle battery as the active one...DOH).
They turned up this morning at 8:20 and the battery was fitted by 8:45. Best £20 I think I have spent as the last time I changed one of those bad boys I just about slipped a disc trying to lift the ruddy thing.
Now to plan where my first run is going to be

I use Halfords quite a bit through out the year, I always do click and collect as the prices on the Halfords web site are always cheaper than the shop, also get 10% off with either my Veterans discount card or my Bluelight card and even cycling Uk card

Re: Battery Replacement
I replaced my WXL starter battery last year with a Halfords battery, it’s a 019 fitting

Re: Battery Replacement
Boaby…not van battery but may be relevant.
Been looking at replacement leisure bat. and liked look of Halfords ELB700, now found that this battery is in fact Yuasa L36 EFB. Halfords batteries are Yuasa and same thing without halford stickers are cheaper by far from the likes of Tanya.

Re: Battery Replacement
The advantage of Halfords is that any battery problems can be dealt with at any branch. I buy from Tayna , on price but also they are local but I know that won't help if I'm miles away on tour.

Re: Battery Replacement
It was the Yuasa HSB019. It is a bit dearer than the Halfords own brand but I put a Yuasa in the old van and never had any problems so decided to put the same make in this time.

No problem Boaby. Also meant to add it comes with a 5 year guarantee which gives a wee bit more peace of mind.

Re: Battery Replacement
Can the fridge do this? Mine will work on 12V, mains or gas but will only work on 12V when the engine is running. This was also the case with my caravans which only drew 12V from the tow VB and only when the engine was running.Dave Gee wrote:.... the one in the van was completely dead (some fool forgot to turn the fridge off and left the vehicle battery as the active one...DOH).

Re: Battery Replacement
That's the norm, Caraman, but usually the fridge control panel is on a permanent live feed from the leisure battery, hence the need to turn the fridge off.Caraman wrote:Can the fridge do this? Re: Battery Replacement
I didn't think it would draw that much power, providing the fridge's door wasn't open and its internal light on. I wonder if the EC500, which must also have been on if the fridge was on, contributed to it?

Re: Battery Replacement
That was the problem - unlike the old van, I didn't realise the fridge was on a permanent live feed. The Control Panel was on to let the Solar Panel charge both batteries - just a pity we had no sun and the temperature dropped to -12 a couple of nights which didn't help and, as I didn't have an external socket, I wasn't leaving a window open to plug it in.
The fridge was the only thing I could think of which would have killed the battery but it may just have been battery wasn't in the best of health when I got he van. Shouldn't happen again as I've now had an external socket fitted and can keep it hooked up over winter

That's the way our 2015 Duo works also.Caraman wrote:Can the fridge do this? Mine will work on 12V, mains or gas but will only work on 12V when the engine is running. Re: Battery Replacement
There is a permanent 12v supply to the fridge control panel and if the fridge is left on looking for the 12v from the alternator the indicator light will be flashing and a current drawn, albeit only a little, that over time it will drain the battery its connected too.
