General and Goodrich Tyres
Has aybody fitted either General Grabber AT3 or B F Goodrich K02 all terrain tyres to their Campervan and if so what they thought of them please ?
Yes I am aware of the noise and consumption cosiderations this could cause.
Thanks

Didn't get much response when someone else asked this back in Feb 21.

Re: General and Goodrich Tyres
I run BFG KM2's on my Jeep and they are fantastic for off-road use.
But I can't for one minute imagine using them on the van, they are insanely loud on tarmac

I looked at them but couldn’t get them with a high enough load rating. I went for cross climates but I have never had the opportunity to test them in the right terrain or weather

I have BF Goodrich ko2 on a 21 WXL, the load rating allowed me to get uprated to 4.5 ton, have now done 18, 000 miles, noise rating is only 5db higher, a difference that you can’t hear imo, sorry never measure fuel consumption, but haven’t noticed any difference, brilliant in snow and winter rated when abroad, Done lots of mileage in Eastern Europe with knaff roads, prefer not camping on hard standing, not got stuck ever, tyre size 225/75 R16. No down side

Re: General and Goodrich Tyres
All very useful answers, thank you very much.
I too found it difficult to find the appropriate size with correct load rating but have eventually found both General and Goodrich with a 115 rating (good for 1215kg) which would be OK for me. I'm planning to make a decision soon.
I too have heard several people saying the noise level difference is inconceivable.

A 3db difference in noise rating is a doubling of noise.

Re: General and Goodrich Tyres
I was going to use the KO2 on our van but could not get the load rating so in the end I went for the Continental 4 season 2 tyres

Late response, but for the record, I have run both General Grabbers and BFG AT’s on various 4x4’s for vast distances, but the most recent BFG’s (on a Shogun) ’s became very noisy after about 15,000 miles. Severely noisy, to the extent that I thought I had a transmission issue. The issue was resolved immediately (and did not recur) when I changed to Grabbers. I later read that quite a few people have had similar problems with KO2’s, due it is suggested to a difference in the compound used compared to earlier versions. They are not unduly noisy when new, but the noise level can increase dramatically as the tyres begin to wear.
I would not risk BFG again, but am keen to put Grabbers on the van. Fantastic tyres!

Thanks Bargee, Iv'e not heard that before. Could I ask when it was that you experienced the noise issue with Ko2's ?

Re: General and Goodrich Tyres
So far as I recall the new KO2’s were fitted about five years ago. They were perfectly normal and quiet for perhaps 15,000 miles, but gradually an eventually severe noise developed, and I spent the next couple of years thinking I had a transmission problem, but never found it. Then I tried changing the tyres in rotation with an older 3/4 worn pair of other tyres and established by a process of elimination that two of the KO’s were the culprits, which had been bought at a different (later) time to the other pair. The noise ceased, and I then changed the lot for GG’s, which ended the problem. Those GG’s did over 80,000 miles before I sold the vehicle (Shogun).willconquerer wrote:Thanks Bargee, Iv'e not heard that before. I suspect there was a problem with the tyre compound and unearthed other cases but BFG didn’t want to know. Perhaps things have changed again now but I wouldn’t risk it, particularly since BFG were totally unhelpful!
