Dripping tap Empty Dripping tap

Post by Hollybobs Thu Oct 13, 2022 4:11 pm

We have a 2001 Peugeot Autosleeper Symbol.
It is our first campervan and we love it but when you turn the taps of in the sink,it keeps dripping for about an hour or so.
Does anybody have any solutions ?  wave

Turn the water pump off and open a tap briefly to release the pressure; For a proper cure you will need to examine/replace the tap seals. If you put a photo of the tap on this thread, someone will recognise the type and tell you how to do the repair.

Had this problem on our 2000 Symbol. Couldn't unscrew the gland on the hot tap so fashioned a heat shield and heated it with a blowtorch.

Still couldn't undo it but it cured the drip!

Dripping tap Empty Re: Dripping tap

Welcome to the forum Hollybobs  allthumbz

It's difficult to offer advice without seeing the tap but a dripping tap in a van is unlikely to be any different to one at home. If it's a mixer, either the washer or ceramic insert may have to be replaced. If you are lucky (as I was once) taking the tap apart, cleaning and tightening the screw inside was enough to stop the dripping. Good luck.

If access is easy, and the fittings are push-fit, I would replace the tap for peace of mind. If you prefer to have a go, use a small screwdriver to prise off the knob caps (risk of splitting) which will expose a screw. Undo the screw (if not corroded in) to reveal the gland nut and spindle. If brave, use your Bachos or similar adjustable grips to nip up tighter the nut whilst supporting the body of the tap to prevent swivelling. Re-assemble see if successful. If you find a ceramic cartridge instead of washer under a gland nut, swap out the cartridge (cheaper ones are not 100 reliable). It looks like an old fitting so as I suggest at the beginning, for me, I'd replace.

Just to be clear , after undoing the screw, the knobs need to be gently pulled off - then the nuts will be revealed.
