Rear Fitting bike rack 98 Duetto
After spending £s for decent bodywork on my 98 Duetto - and finding that the chasis is sound - what are the forum's recommendations for a decent rear door fitted bike rack please - 2 bikes.

Fiamma Carry-Bike. From memory I think it's the 200 model which fits your year van but phone to confirm before ordering anyway. Also it's worth shopping around as prices on Fiamma stuff varies.

Got a 200d from JustKampers for £250 delivered, waiting for it to arrive, had a few replies from some companies saying they would get back to me, never did. ASOF wins again!

Whatever you do don't do what I did.Spoonvet wrote:Got a 200d from JustKampers for £250 delivered, waiting for it to arrive, had a few replies from some companies saying they would get back to me, never did. ASOF wins again!
I spent months scouring ebay for a used one to save a few quid. After no success I gave up and bought brand new though they were £189 when I had mine. A few weeks after getting it fitted I was off on tour and one day I was browsing ebay and blow me, an unwanted brand new Fiamma 200D bike rack up for grabs with a BIN price of £80!

Ah!!! I feel your pain - i did spend a few weeks browsing various sites to no avail! I was tired of my towbar rack and the pain of trying not to get the frame rubbed against the rack or the van - so pulled the trigger - wish I'd done it before! Can carry 2 bikes, fit a cover and lock. onwardBulletguy wrote:Whatever you do don't do what I did.Spoonvet wrote:Got a 200d from JustKampers for £250 delivered, waiting for it to arrive, had a few replies from some companies saying they would get back to me, never did. Ah - came to fit the 200D too my Duetto and the fitter said - i don't want to fit that as i don't want to remove the trim from the rear door?! He recommended a top fitting bracket that is available - has anyone any experience of this please?

Fitter doesn't want to fit the 200D as he's afraid of damaging the trim on the interior of the rear door. He recommended a top fitting bracket that is available and fits over the door. Has anyone any experience of this??

Re: Rear Fitting bike rack 98 Duetto
Your fitter simply doesn't want to fit the rack I think. I've fitted a couple of these to Duettos. Removing the trim is child's play: pop off the screw covers and undo screws. Nothing to damage. What can be tricky is accessing the back of some of the mount holes to fit washers & nuts and tighten, as some of these are in awkward places which involve a combination of skinned knuckles/swear words/dropped washers & nuts and ingenuity with spanners. Not impossible, just fiddly. Don't be tempted to dispense with back washers or the re-enforcing plate: the door skin is thin, and on an earlier van someone had avoided your fitter's concern by using self-tappers. The door skin split under load.
I've not seen a top or side mounted Fiamma Bike Rack for the Transit, although they do offer this for the Fiat variants I think.

I had mine fitted by the supplier i'd bought from but the numpties fitted it on the wrong door making it extremely difficult to open and close the rear door due to the bike rack rails.edmason wrote:Your fitter simply doesn't want to fit the rack I think. I was fuming but there was little I could do at that point as I was going away the following day and had a ferry crossing booked.
They agreed to correct it without charge when I came back but needless to say they never got any business from me again!

Wrong door ? near or off side??
If on the near side, one can remove the rails and fit a small Fiama box, as we did. Also the fixings of the near side door provide a stronger mounting base (hinges and centre clips)
Any way up bike carriers present a problem
I have one for a Mk5 VW Topaz tailgate model for sale
