Cleaning water tanks inside
Hello,
Eventually I would like to clean the inside of the water tanks on our Warwick XL. To be able to clean the fresh-/ greywater tanks inside do they need to be dropped to ground? Or have I missed something?
Thanks

All of your questions will, of course be answered by those who know the answer, however, if you go to the search box, top right of this page and type in what you want, it is virtually certain that this has been asked before(it has, many times!) and your answer may be there.
However, don't let you be put off asking questions!

Hello, you are most certainly right The main reason I am posting this myself with a: Have I missed something is because I live in Sweden and have imported my van. Here it seems that this is not standard on vans built for our market because garages I have spoke to insist that there must be another way of cleaning the tanks. So just felt I need to make sure there is no other way. Even though from all I have read it is the only way

We have had motorhomes for over 30 years, including our current one for 18 years and we have never removed a fresh water tank to clean it. There are proprietory tank cleaners available such as Puriclean
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
or ProKleen
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
or some folk use citric acid or acetic acid.
None of these require the removal of the tank.

Every day is a school day!
By the way, in case it's not obvious, once you've followed the cleaning procedure for the fresh water tank, then you can flush it through into the waste water tank and let it do its work there.
Should something stronger be needed for the waste (grey water) tank then there are other proprietory cleaning fluids but obviously they are not suitable for the fresh water tank - e.g. Elsan Tank Fresh, Thetford Grey Water Fresh, Fenwicks Waste Pipe & Tank Cleaner, etc. Thetford also do a Duo cleaner which is suitable for waste tanks and toilet waste holding tank/cassette.

Re: Cleaning water tanks inside
My bet is that the tanks fitted to continental vans have a large inspection hatch which can be used for cleaning. This was my experience when I had a German Knaus caravan with an on-board fresh water tank. Auto-Sleepers don't seem to specify these so chemical cleaning is the only way.gobsmacked wrote:....
