Diesel Empty Diesel

Post by BagginsandtheBear Fri Mar 11, 2022 9:40 am

Just passed the local Tesco forecourt Diesel £1.779 but Sainsbury is at  £1.659. All these companies buy ahead - way ahead of the current uplift in crude - from the same market. Profiteering on this scale must  be discouraged - but probably won't be.

It all depends how far ahead you fixed a contract. 6 months, 3 months, a week? In a former life I used to buy commodities including at times oil. If you coukd sit in and office and know for sure which way the price of oil will go…up or down….yes it does go down…you would make a mint. All commodity prices fluctuate be it soya bean, cocoa, coffee, animal feed, oil. Having said that the price is just going up and up.

It is not profiteering. The price is set by the market at the point of sale. What the oil company paid for the product is irrelevant. If you don't want to pay the price don't drive anywhere. Anyway at least our houses are not getting blown up. Paying an extra 20 or 30% is a small price to pay compared to what those brave Ukrainians are having to face on our behalf. They are rapidly being decimated into the no mans land between Russia and Nato.

Taking a shortcut through a local ESSO today while out walking I was amazed to see the petrol price on the pump display was 1.26 per litre. I double checked I wasn’t seeing things then checked the big sign as you drive in. £1.62 a litre.
Whoever enters the price into the computer is getting sacked in the morning!!
