Carver P4 Air Heater Problem
Hi guys i am currently on a trip around Southern Ireland
, im in an Auto Sleeper Symphony, the Carver P4 air header installed will run for a while (approx 10/15mins) then cut out and the control panel shows a solid red light. Would anyone have any ideas what the most likely cause is? My gas bottle is full, happens on hook up as well as battery power, doesn’t seem to matter what thermostat setting either. Any help would be appreciated as we need it as its chilly at night atm.
Thanks

Thanks, its a solid red, so I think either air in the system (probably unlikely as iv ran it countless times) or control failure, does that mean replacing the control unit will solve the issue?

When I had a Symphony with the p4, it used to take over a dozen firings before it would stay lit after being unused for a period of time. But in the end I had to replace it (managed to find one on eBay). There is a chap on ebay that will refurbish the p4 but it involves sending entire unit, just search Carver p4 , I'm sure you'll find him.

Awkward rather than difficult. There's not a lot of room to work in, you need to work inside and help the two external pipes feed back inside.

Re: Carver P4 Air Heater Problem
I've removed mine a few times from my 99 Duetto - as said above - not much space. Permament red does sound like a gas feed or control issue as it reads - I sent mine to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - great service. I managed to plug the power feed back in wrong and the reverse polarisation burnt the circuit board - he sent me a replacement for a fair price. Worth contacting. I look forward to not removing mine again....

Interestingly im getting a solid red when i have it on low heat and when on high heat i get a double flashing red, it seems like it occurs after the van has reached the temperature set on the thermostat too, it would be handy if its just the control until playing up but i dunno

Re: Carver P4 Air Heater Problem
Hi Paul just an update on this, I had the P4 out sent to ar systems to be fixed, it came back and worked great for a few months but has just started acting up again, it seems like the best option is to replace it with something new at this point. Just wondering what you replaced yours with? Looking for something that will fit in the existing space with minimal fuss, have also considered a diesel heater but then that would require running a line from the tank, would appreciate your thoughtsPaulmold wrote:When I had a Symphony with the p4, it used to take over a dozen firings before it would stay lit after being unused for a period of time. I replaced mine with identical unit secondhand off ebay. You could look at a Propex/Heatsource which operate similarly and fit in the confined space you have. There are usually several on ebay.

Re: Carver P4 Air Heater Problem
Hi Paul thanks for getting back to me, I have actually looked at a Propex HS2800 which has similar output, the issue that seems to be with that unit is that the flue intake and exhaust exit from the side of the unit which I don't think will allow it to fit in the same space, I have attached a pic to illustrate. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
there is another until HS2211 which is designed for external fitting that has the flue on the bottom but it is only 1.9kw which is think is underpowered for winter use

Ah yes I have seen that one also the newer Vario heat which looks great my hesitation was that it states they both run on 30mbar while everything in my van plug the regulator on the cylinder is a 37mbar, do you know if that would be an issue?

I think best thing to do to be sure is email Truma and ask them can I run it on 37mbar, if that is a yes that unit should work nicely
