Visitor attraction especially for bird lovers
I know there are quite a few members interested in birds. Today we visited a small zoo where you can be hands on with a snake, feed the lorikeets and an ostrich and with in my opinion the best free-flying bird display in the country. Its put on as a show with a really good compere/keeper/trainer. It started with an American Bald Eagle flying right over our heads, then a Barn Owl flying inches above your head and so close you could feel the air. Following that an Eagle Owl, then Harrier Hawk, Vultures, Kites (black and brown). The finale is breathtaking with about 60 birds or more flying free together. This included Cranes, Storks, Pelicans and a collection of Macaws. Absolutely beautiful to watch.
I can thoroughly recommend Wild (which includes the Wild Wings show) which is located in Halfpenny Wine Estate which as well as the zoo has restaurant, farm shop (including their range of wines) and craft workshops such a blacksmiths, stained glass artist etc etc.
To make it even more appealing there is a basic campsite for £6 per night (or free if a Britstop member)

We thought we knew area pretty well, left over 30 years ago though and now our son and family live there and every time we go down he introduces us to places we never knew existed.Suppersready wrote:We know the area very well …. That's what I remember about Halfpenny Green. Don't know if still have the market but did notice signs for a car boot sale just a short distance away. The airport seemed quite busy with several light aircraft taking off and landing so maybe the airfield is used more now.breakaleg wrote:Hi Paul,
