Picking up my Camper Empty Picking up my Camper

Post by Frogers Tue Oct 05, 2021 7:34 pm

Hello

I'm picking up my new (to me) camper van on Friday - an Autosleeper Symbol (Orian Pavo). Any advice on what I should ask about during the handover? I'm a complete newbie to camper van life so any advice very welcome.

Thanks

If possible record what they say on the handover, as you are sure to forget something, exciting time, plenty of advice on here if you need any just ask.

Good luck and just relax and enjoy, you will soon be an old hand at it.
Best regards,
Margaret

What Margaret suggested is a good idea.    Dont let them rush the handover and if necessary repeat anything you are unsure of.
Main thing is how things work

Make them make the beds up in single and double configuration to ensure you have all the necessary infill cushions. These go missing (previous owners put in loft if not used and forget them).

Look the handover person in the eyes and ask him/her firmly "Do all the habitation systems work correctly"?  "When was the last habitation check and can I please have a copy of the report"?
Don't forget it's a road vehicle.  You need service-history evidence. You should also examine the MOT certificates for records of mileage and records of "Advisories". Try to establish the age and condition of both batteries and any warranty conditions. If it's on electric hook-up when you arrive, it's probably because the batteries were flat. Or even knackered. I accompanied a newbie friend for a pickup.  We arrived half an hour early and found the vehicle on hook-up. The dealer blustered but agreed to two new batteries.
Be politely suspicious !!!!!!  Keith
