Elf n safety
Has the world gone mad? I have just been on the London Underground and at Embankment Station had the usual helpful announcements. “ Mind the gap…..stand away from the edge of the platform….don’t run…..hold the handrail on the escalator” that’s all standard fare repeated endlessly. However today, added to this, we had “Make sure your shoelaces are firmly tied” OMG this is the nanny state gone mad. I was last told that by my mother when going off to primary school, and that was a long time ago. How have I managed to survive the last 70 odd years? Are we to expect the next new announcement to be “Have you wiped your bottom and washed your hands?” Sorry….Admin may remove that but I simply despair.

Re: Elf n safety
Perhaps they have had instances of laces caught in escalators resulting in pretty horrendous results.

I hope anone caught in the escalator by their shoelaces had taken their mother's advice and made sure they were wearing clean underwear in case they had an accident and had to go to hospital...?

Re: Elf n safety
Apparently there have been many more accidents on the escalators since Covid struck because people are not holding onto the handrail as they are afraid of picking up the virus from it.

Actually that is me. I travel a lot on the underground, trains and buses, covid permitting, and I avoid touching any handrails straps etc. My point perhaps is that at every stop on the underground/trains you are told to mind the gap, added to that is if you see anything suspicious report it. All this is also repeated on the overhead display. On a train that stops frequently that can jar a bit. There was recently one on the buses “Hold on the bus is about to leave.” at every stop. One of the bus drivers told they had stopped it after numerous complaints from the public.Quilter wrote:Apparently there have been many more accidents on the escalators since Covid struck because people are not holding onto the handrail as they are afraid of picking up the virus from it.

We call our Garmin Satnav "Sonia". I read a few years ago that drivers of the Tube trains gave that name to the message voice which said "Mind the Gap" . Why, Because it get Sonia nerves.... ! Loved it.Bobskate wrote: There was recently one on the buses “Hold on the bus is about to leave.” at every stop. Re: Elf n safety
Then there was the announced warning before the last segment of Our Yorkshire Farm last night, I thought I'd heard them all, but this was a warning about 'Imitative Behaviour'. Just that, no explanation as to what the behaviour was that we were about to witness, presumably so as not to draw attention to it, whatever it was...
Well why say it then??
