NE Scotland
Just back from NE Scotland staying at the Huntly Castle site which is affiliated to the C&MC. Last used the site in 2017. It was full at weekends but thinned out during the week. Traffic in the area was generally as expected as the schools are back and this area is not really a tourist 'hot spot'. It's a two day journey from Gloucestershire so the first overnight was at Garlieston, C&MC, a site used before. We had the last pitch when I had booked at the beginning of August. I couldn't arrange for a pitch on the journey south again so stayed on a commercial site at Newcastleton.
Managed to fill up with diesel in Longtown, Cumbria on Sunday morning paying what seemed to be the going rate for fuel locally, £1-39.9 per litre. Just as well as service stations on the M6 were asking £1-58.9 per litre. Brownie points to Strensham Services on the M5 though as they seemed to be charging a more normal price for their diesel, on a par with Longtown.
As 'usual' the time was split between the Moray coast and the Cairngorms on mainly empty roads until we found ourselves caught up in rush hour traffic in Inverness after visiting the Black Isle. Won't make that mistake again.
