Replacing Fresh Water Strap
Hi,
My VW Clubman GL fresh water tank needs a new strap as the old one is rusty and apparently dangerous to drive with if the tank is filled.
Does anyone have any advice about which strap I need to buy and what the easiest way to replace it would be?
Thanks
Clare

You might find something from Caktanks, item UTMK or UTS here?

Re: Replacing Fresh Water Strap
if you do this yourself, put the new strap(s) in place loosely before removing the rusty straps.
You will need to get underneath to do this. I doubt it would take a garage mechanic more than half an hour to fit. That would be my choice.,

Re: Replacing Fresh Water Strap
Might be an easy job. It more likely that because water gets trapped twixt tank and strap rusted underneath, all thats needed is a fresh length of metal of the same size to be welded to the vertical parts. It 14 years since I sold my Clubman and I cannot recall how the straps were fixed to the chassis . Its the ends are the fiddly bits as they have to be asjustable to pull the tank up against the floor.

Have a look underneath I would look if is possible to support the tank underneath with large piece of ply supported with a jack holding the tank in place then remove 0ne strap and replace ,repeat on second strap , hopefully this method would not disturb the pipes or wiring.. it is possible that modern straps are made from a rustproof plastic material ,
