Alko air top unit leaking.
Over the past month I have noticed a continuous drop in pressure not the left hand gauge in the passenger footwell. It loses about .2 of a bar overnight.
Having been underneath and tried spraying soapy water on the passenger side bellows unit I have seen very small air bubbles from above the top plastic ring above the bellows, where it meets the top fitting bracket. I have tried smearing silicon as a temporary measure but have not stopped the leakage.
Both units were replaced by Auto Sleeper under warranty a number of years back and having had a good look underneath do not believe the problem is with the bellows itself.
Now what to do. Marquis have quoted an hours labour of £81 just to look at it. This would not be considered part of the payment if replacement is required. I am having no luck at the present getting through to Autosleeper themselves and I have heard that they are booked up until October anyway. Marcle in Malpas have quoted £254 for the bellows unit but do not fit them. They also note £430 for a full Dunlop kit, again without fitting.
I was wondering about trying a caplllary action silicon sealant that I saw in a ship's chandlers as a further attempt at self help.
Has anyone any comments on: i]the capillary action silicon?
ii]having a local garage fitting a new unit?
iii]know anyone in the north of England who might fit a new unit? [we live in Wensleydale]
iv]any experience of the Dunlop system?
v]can the whole system be removed? I understand the early Warwick Duos, that our van is based on, did not
have air assistance.
vi] anything else that I haven't thought about?

My Duo (2010) doesn't have air assistance and drives fine without it.

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
Thanks for that PM. I presume that there must be a bump stop or something that the Alko bellows take the place of. Could you possibly hazard a guess what that might be?
Also. I am not necessarily against replacing the unit or indeed both of them. I have struggled to get a price for the replacement and indeed I am struggling to get a response from AS. In addition when I did manage to speak to the service department in May I was told that they were booked solid until October. Consequently I was looking at temporary solutions until something was available. At present I am still waiting for a price for repair from Marquis and I do not know where else to go.
My local garage does not have a vehicle lift capable of coping with my van and this is why I was asking for suggestions of fitting in the whole of the north of England.

Have you tried Alko directly? They have a network of approved service centres at the webpage linked here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I entered Wensleydale into the search box and it came up with the 4 listed below.

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
How many years ago was the bags replaced as they are guaranteed for 5 years so if fail in that time should be a warranty claim

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
I don't actually remember and I cannot get through to AS to check.
This morning i have tried.
Ropers. Only dealing with their own warranty work.
Catterick Caravans. Only dealing with they own vans.
Marquis Preston. No agents available. Call cut off. [I bought the van new from them]
Autosleeper. No agents available. Call cut off.
Dickinsons. Permanently closed.
Yesterday
Marquis Durham. Initially own vans. Then said that they would get a price for replacement. No answer as yet.
Auto Sleepers. No agents. Call cut off.
I know that the market in leisure vehicles has gone slightly crazy, but what are people doing? Not using their vans or driving around with potentially dangerous issues?

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
I’ve sent you a private message that may help. The guy did mine and I use him a lot for my van and cars. He will almost certainly be able to do the fitting. Give him a call.

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
Thank you Rolyan. Interesting as that is quite close to where our daughter lives.
However I thought that I would give AS themselves a try. I emailed them on Wednesday asking for info on when the present system was fitted and for a date in the future when they could offer me assistance replacing the leaking unit. As yet no reply, not even to say if they have my email.
Marquis have back and said that as AS no longer fitted the Alko system they could not help with the repair.

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
If you can buy the replacement air bag I would do this and change it my self, it’s possibly only 4 bolts and nuts and a push in air pipe connection, a photo of the affected air bag would help identify the part need,
I self fitted a full air assist that I bought from Marcel leisure to my Autotrail, about 4 hours in total to fit that

Re: Alko air top unit leaking.
I know it's considered 'bad form' to pick up on spelling mistakes but if we assume it's just a typo - shouldn't Marcel be Marcle? If uncorrected and somebody is reading the original in the future and are unaware of Marcle Leisure then they will be stumped. If I'm wrong happy to be corrected.

Steady on people. My local paper has just described parking by the 'Green Dolphin' in Wensleydale before going for a particular walk. It should have been the 'Green Dragon'.
Not many dolphins in Wensleydale!
