Autosleeper History
Hi, you can see my van in my profile - 2004, 54 reg, Trident LE, last of the VW T4s.
I have only ever seen 2 of the same colour, one in Germany - which was a Westphalia conversion, and Beryl's van in Scotland, which is exactly the same as mine only a year earlier. She said she has only seen one other - by coincidence, probably mine, when it was in the Lake district in 2018.
She thought they were this colour as a trial by Autosleeper, thinking about their final colours for their models - she had seen a lilac one as well, but other than ours, we have only ever seen silver ones, which must have been the colour they finally chose.
Has anyone any other experience of Tridents like ours - not silver and 03-05 reg? And is there anyone who collates Autosleeper 'history' like this?
TIA Maggie

Sorry my profile wasn't up to date, we were going to buy an older one but luckily found this one, its a Blue 2004 LE edition with 54K on the clock like this one: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Autosleeper History
I'm fairly sure that A/S just offered a subset of whatever the standard VW colours happened to be at the time and, like car colours such as the ubiquitous white of a few years ago, some colours were just more popular than others!
Our Trooper is in a standard VW colour (LA6W Fresco Green) but you don't see many about in that finish. When I bought our (non-A/S) Celex in 2013 I wanted it in the same colour, but VW stopped using it in 2012 and I ended up with Boring Grey instead!

Re: Autosleeper History
These were made during the crossover to the T5
The LE says it all Last of everything!
No bad thing as we had a T4 Clubman LE and it was great
but only had the steel rims and no A/C.
A Very smart set of conversion's done to use up the T4 stocks that were available (at a good price, to A/S I imagine) as those in the know were waiting for the T5 incarnation.

Re: Autosleeper History
Alan used to be the AS "historian", the go-to man for any info on all AS models. Not sure if he still works for them or maybe retired now but worth a call.Maggie5 wrote: And is there anyone who collates Autosleeper 'history' like this?

I never knew his surname Paul but did meet him once and I think you maybe right. I doubt anyone else there has the extent of his knowledge. He seemed to be unique in that respect and taken for granted.Paulmold wrote:if that's the Alan (Osborne I think) in spares, he retired a few years ago.

You may be surprised at the collective knowledge of some of the ASOC members on here.

he was brilliant and always had a drawerful of bits and bobs free of charge like fuse holders, knows, hinges etc.Bulletguy wrote:I never knew his surname Paul but did meet him once and I think you maybe right. Re: Autosleeper History
I'm a bit confused (who said what's new ). This year is the 20th anniversary of the Nuevo (and 60th of AS) with a special van. I spotted an 09 plate Nuevo with 20th marked on the side and rear. Do they have 20th anniversaries every 10 years?

Re: Autosleeper History
Marquis used to put anniversary badges on their vans every year. Our Sussex is a 21st anniversary one (I think it's 21, been that long since I noticed).

Thanks Paul, it had a Scottish dealers sticker on it and a Scottish licence plate prefix. Could be they were doing it as well.
