Garage Recommendations in the NE
Can anyone recommend a good garage for servicing motorhomes in the North East of England?

Not me. Could you perhaps think of an even less succinct thread title for your next post?

Pete - this is caused by a very long-standing fault in the setup of the forum. I ~think~ this configuration error has been present right from the first day that the forum opened.
The problem is that, when composing a message you get offered two fields - Title and Description.
So... Davecrawf put "Recommendations" and "Service and MOT" in the two fields. The problem is that the second field only appears in the forum index. It does not appear anywhere in the post itself, so the thread appears to just have the title "Recommendations".

Make and model?
Worth noting that if it is up to 3500kg then for the vehicle service /MOT you need to search for a garage that takes Class 7 vehicles. For a Habitation service you may find a mobile engineer but check that if the motorhome is under warranty this meets the guarantee requirements. If you are lucky you may find a habitation service engineer who will do it at the garage doing the vehicle check.

Thanks.
Tyne Valley Motorhomes are fully booked through to September. However I have used them in the past and they were very good.
Going to try a local garage tomorrow

But of a trek for you but we use Leisuretech NE at Stockton. Can do habitation/vehicle servicing and repairs and MOT. They also have mobile servicing but obviously no good for MOT.
I suppose if you wanted a break in this part of the world you could organise it.

Re: Garage Recommendations in the NE
They are Class 4 for MOT requirements but Class 7 is commercial vehicles between 3000 - 3500kg and you need a garage that can handle the size and weight to do a service.

Any garage that does MOT’s and that can get the van through the doors and has the head room for the van on the ramp can do the MOT

Re: Garage Recommendations in the NE
Slightly more complicated Chris, my local Peugeot dealer sells vans as well as cars, their service bays and ramps can take the WXL, however when they upgraded the garage they didn't update the MOT bay. They can get the WXL on to the ramp but can't position it safely enough to carry out the test.
MOT tester told me if they upgraded the ramp they would have to upgrade whole test set up to meet modern requirements including expensive IT kit, not upgrading they are covered by grandparent clause so no incentive to upgrade. Their solution is to outsource MOT for long wheel base vans to local commercial tester.

Re: Garage Recommendations in the NE
Yes, but that means they have to be able to handle a Class 7 vehicle and it’s simpler to search for garages that have that capability. Alternatively you phone lots of garages and say - I’ve got a motorhome and it weighs ….. and is …m long etc. From experience I found that it is simpler to start with an internet search for a Class 7 garage.FreelanderUK wrote:Any garage that does MOT’s and that can get the van through the doors and has the head room for the van on the ramp can do the MOT

Re: Garage Recommendations in the NE
I think that I am all sorted now, following a recommendation from a local garage, who would have done the mot if my motorhome had been able to get on to the ramps. However the extremely helpful technician was still willing to help me find someone else to do the mot.
Thanks again for everyone's support.
