Thetford Caprice 3 Hot plate
My Hot Plate on the Thetford Capricer 3 Cooker fitted to the Broadway has failed or the hot plate switch.
Checked the power, its ok, the gas ignition is working.
I am having problems removing the plate the 3 gas and electric hot plate are fixed on, anybody know how to remove this plate?
Is there another way to replace the hot plate and check the hot plate switch?

Re: Thetford Caprice 3 Hot plate
Thanks Spanner for you help. But.... today the problem looks different. I was mistaking the spark ignition for mains power not 12 Volt supply and a dodgy mains tester gave me the wrong lead. I actually have no power at the cooker socket and can only assume that there is a joint somewhere under the floor where the power splits to the two TV sockets and the Microwave socket ( Microwave spur off the TV sockets ) its the cable run I need to find. Anybody help on how the cable gets from the boiler cupboard to the cooker socket?

If its hard to find the cable, have others ever run mains cables under the van using good quality braided flexible cable?

Have you removed the face of the cooker socket and checked for a bad connection ?
I’ll have a look on our van tomorrow for the cable routing.
I suspect the mains cable could have a quick connector block between the resettable trip switch and the feeds to the sockets, perhaps things have just vibrated loose.

Re: Thetford Caprice 3 Hot plate
Thanks Spanner, I have checked the cooker socket. Its on a quick release at the socket end under the cooker, I have no power there. I was convinced that the main feed that goes to the 2 X TV sockets and the Microwave socket also feeds the cooker socket. After looking on the Sargent site I see that there are 2 mains multi plugs coming out of the EC 328. I now think that perhaps one of the plugs is loose as the cooker could have its own feed. That makes sense to have an individual feed to the cooker. Check that out tomorrow morning.

Re: Thetford Caprice 3 Hot plate
Found the problem. There is no hidden connection. its a direct feed from the Sargent EC unit on one of the 9 wire plugs. Removed the shrink wrap and the live fell out away from the crimp.
Called Sargent for help on finding out the connection type, they said they would send out a new 9 way connector and pins for free. As per usual I have found Sargent to be an outstanding company on their support. Now its a few days wait for the parts and reconnect all the cables to new pins insert into new connector and test.

Well done with the fault finding, nice easy fix as well.
I think you’ve saved yourself a lot of hassle and money by having a go yourself rather than a trip to a dealer.
I’ve always found Sargent Electrical very helpful over the phone.
