Speedo and odometer not functioning
Hi All,
I have had an auto electrician check the speedo and odometer today, and he says its not electrical but its probably the gear box drive as that end of the cable doesn't want to work.
Can anyone suggest a garage that can do this please, I'm in Whittlesford CB22. Thanks in advance

I think you'll find that speedometer failure is a common fault in Boxer vans of that type. My brother in law has a '99 Symbol, which is probably the same base vehicle and his speedo hasn't worked for five years. The parts to repair it are no longer made. He uses a satnav to tell him his speed.

That's interesting - a non-working speedo is an MOT Major fail (Section 7.8) . . .

But as it's not checked, it won't be a recorded failure?rogerblack wrote:steamdrivenandy wrote:I think you'll find that speedometer failure is a common fault in Boxer vans of that type. Just to let you know, it wasn't the speedo driver or electrical.
There is a lot of water damage in the gear box, which is shot, and the clutch and drive wheel might need replacing too.
To say I'm annoyed is an understatement. I've got a good bloke on it and I am taking it up with the dealer.

Sorry to hear of your problems, hope you get some satisfaction when taking it up with the dealer.
If it's a Peugeot Boxer base vehicle, then gear box water ingress problems were common in vans of that era due to a poor scuttle design, which caused water to drain over the gearbox. If you search on here you'll find many previous threads on the subject.

Get yourself a good detailed written report so you have some ammunition ready in case of dealer problems
