Kingham roof rack
Hi, we have a Kingham, my wife wants to transport an 8.5 foot canoe. It will just about fit inside. Would prefer to fit to the roof. Has anyone done this on a Kingham or similar? Any ideas please?

Re: Kingham roof rack
I’m pretty sure member ‘Kingham’ will have some answers (although he has a kayak on the roof not a canoe) but I don’t recall seeing him on here recently.
Maybe do a search for his past posts?

We haven't done it, but, did research it a bit.
First thing to say is the roof bars are decorative, not load bearing, unless that option was specified at first purchase.
If you have the Thule awning then they offer a roof rack that mounts with that - from memory the awning bolts to the same roof rack mounting points.
Kingham then mounted a Kari-Tek sliding rack so that he could load his kayaks from the side of the van, rather than having to get up to the roof. We were looking at a roller at the rear to slide our kayaks on to the roof, then using a ladder to get up and tie them down.
Eventually, we decided to just use our inflatable kayak (carried on the bike rack) and sold our full size sea kayaks.

Re: Kingham roof rack
One other thought. The main reason we gave up on the idea is that there is a lot, and I mean a lot!, of stuff on the roof of a Kingham.
We weren't prepared to compromise on opening the skylights or having the solar panel overshadowed by the kayaks, which would restrict the placement of any rack. Both of those things were important to us, they may not be important to you.

That's the rack I was referring to that Kingham has fitted.
From memory, which may be faulty!, this still needs cross bars on the roof to be mounted on.

Cross bars help raise everything above the height of anything fitted on your roof (skylights, vents, solar, etc).
