Erberspacher Heater
Has anybody experience of trouble shooting problems with an Erberspacher diesel heater please? Mine has stopped working. No lights on switch, no noise from unit. Battery fully charged, fuses intact, 12v at unit side of fuses, but no action! Where do I go next?
Thanks.
Jon

Re: Erberspacher Heater
12v sounds like the battery isn't holding a good charge. Ebers draw around 8 amps on the initial start up, so a duff battery cell could reduce the battery voltage to under the critical 10.5 volts to initiate the start cycle.

Thanks for that. Alas I've ruled that one out.

I still say 12 volts isn't enough - a fully charged battery should be showing 12.6/12.7 v.

Of course you're correct. Bad wording on my part; I should have just said power to unit side of fuses.

Re: Erberspacher Heater
Either way Jon - 12 volts is still low - what is the exact voltage your getting?

I think you will find a fully charged 12 volt battery will register 12.7 volts.

Eberspatcher
These heaters are known to pack in if not run fairly reguarly. has it seized up with a long period of disuse.

Eberspacher heater problems
I've recently been working on my heater (it would only start with freshly charged battery).
Having cleaned out (with carbureter solvent) the gauze that the glow pin sits in, it now starts much more readily, but still not perfect You do need to get a special box spanner with slot for removing the glowpin; then pull out the gauze.
It is still very sensitive to supply volts, caused by the excessively long cabling for the power supply.
Sometime I'll sort out the power supply arrangements.
Meanwhile, if I'm having a problem, I run the engine (to maintain battery volts) just while starting the Eberspacher. A bit of a bore - but better than being freezing cold in January!

Re: Erberspacher Heater
I have a 2008 ('new' model) symbol with the same problem so followed your suggestion and ran the engine. Success, but when I switched the engine off after about 5 mins the heater also switched off. I am not techy at all but had a new Leisure battery fitted 3 years ago and keep the van on ehu when parked up at home. Any suggestions/help would be welcome.

Re: Erberspacher Heater
Hi Jon, You also need to have at least one third of a tank full of diesel, not sure of the exact figure but this was quoted to me when I had a 2004 Symbol so may still be relevant.

Apart from the last two posts, those in this thread are from 2012/13 so don't necessarily expect original posters to reply.
