Site prices - again
We've often complained about club site prices but this takes the biscuit.
Just had notification that CAMC site at Cayton Village near Scarborough is to open early following redevelopment. Ok so they are giving 30% off until 15th September when facilities open but looking at their normal prices , 2 adults in September will cost £31 , yes September £31. It drops to £26 for a couple of weeks in October then back to £31 for half term. I then checked for high season next year and from end July to end of August it will cost £39 per night.
I know someone who definitely won't be going there - me!

Just booked 7 nights at Southport for mid September £27 per night and we don't use facility block. It will drop when vat reduction is applied on payment. It was about the only place we fancied going that we could actually make a booking so hobsons choice.

Enjoy Southport Peter, we did last year, intended to go and see the Iron men on the beach, didn't make it.Peter Brown wrote:Just booked 7 nights at Southport for mid September £27 per night and we don't use facility block. No wonder Councils are complaining about wild campers!
CL,s still give good value, shame you cannot book online, or can you?

We've done a few rallies in the adjacent park so have visited the iron men and last year the Liver Building but still a nice place to visit.

Re: Site prices - again
I agree with Paul that the prices are getting somewhat out of hand.
We were paying over £30 at Pembrey a couple of years ago, even late autumn.
We were due to go to Southport last September but nuevogirl's hip op put paid to that.
We had thought of going there this September but we think we'll now avoid the North West this year.
Hopefully the "Iron Men" quoted won't have rusted away completely by the time we get there.

Re: Site prices - again
There's no doubt that they are trying to make up their shortfall in takings by "profiteering" on the lack of vacant pitches around the country. Several sites that are usually struggling to attract campers are showing full signs. Guess they reckon they'll get the money in a sellers market

Re: Site prices - again
Quite agree with you there Paul. We've noticed quite a few sites now charging crazy prices, like you we will not be using them.
Even noticed some tent camp sites getting very expensive - I wonder if it's because large numbers of people now expect swish facilities and even electric hook-up for tents. The glamping craze has a lot to answer for and perhaps the popularity of Pods has made them realise they don't really like the outdoors.
Last weekend we witnessed a campsite owner refunding someone's fees as they were so disillusioned with the weather. Owner was probably trying to avoid a grumpy review.

We are booked on the Troutbeck Head CAMC site next Sunday, standard pitch, not serviced, 2 Adults ( members) £36.20 a night.
It's not even as good as the other clubs site where you can walk into town.
But the site is showing full so obviously priced either correctly or too cheaply ...!!

We normally stick to CLs etc but this year, start this week at Bowness CCC site, followed by the ASOC Rally at Whitby then 7 club sites in Scotland in Sept. The C&MC sites work out a bit cheaper as we got the discount vouchers

Re: Site prices - again
We go to Bowness CCC beginning September, have to send gift vouchers to their head office at least ten days prior which is a pain compared with the CAMC procedures, and then over to N.E to three CAMC sites, like you got the voucher offer.roli wrote:We normally stick to CLs etc but this year, start this week at Bowness CCC site, followed by the ASOC Rally at Whitby then 7 club sites in Scotland in Sept. We are doing Old Hartley, River Breamish and Berwick.
Don't go spending too much in that shopping centre at Stockton.

I tended to prefer Middlesbrough for shopping but that said it’s a few years since we were in Stockton High Street

We have just cancelled our CAMC DD simply because of their absurd prices. Most sites around here are over £30 a night. So much for the benefit of the members!

Do take into consideration they reduce VAT when you pay. One commercial site in Scotland didn’t want to says it covers increased operational costs hence we didn’t go

Just back from Trigon CL in Wareham, £11 a night, was nice and quite , but wet and windy, not their fault.

Re: Site prices - again
I use C&CC CL and THS sites often and join many of their rallies. Prices this year have remained reasonable and this is from a Yorkshire man who knows how to save his pennies. Tempted also to book an Haven Holiday touring site. Many places to choose from and prices are very low for this time of year.

We did use them but even some of them want £25/night now. Sticking with the C&CC far more realistic prices!rgermain wrote:But you loose the CL sites, if you ever used them.OldWomble wrote:We have just cancelled our CAMC DD simply because of their absurd prices. Re: Site prices - again
I don’t know why Councils are complaining because it’s their own damm fault. I could name 10 places in my district (Arun) where they could provide Aires at no or very little cost, bring people into the area and make money from it. But, like all Councils in UK, they don’t want to know!rgermain wrote:No wonder Councils are complaining about wild campers!

We’ve used the Search for Sites app a lot this year for four weeks in Scotland and have found some lovely little sites.
