Warranty transfer on a 2018 van
Hey folks, it's me again... Nearly there with the newbie questions.
I searched the forum for this but it seems worth asking and archiving for others. So our March 2018 Warwick XL with 5K miles on (new to us as of the weekend just gone) van comes with remainder of 7 year warranty - woo hoo.
We've read the T&Cs and the items covered diminish over time. It would appear that on transfer water ingress is no longer covered so there goes the big benefit. But is also appears that nothing else is covered. Not fridge, Truma, fittings and fixtures, upholstery, seems nothing but the ALKO chassis and for that you are directed to Also themselves. Even at new the warranty draws on the individual parts suppliers cover - so problem with Truma - go to Truma and claim from them.
So am I right in concluding the 120UKP transfer fee is better kept and put toward the next habitation service and damp check? Also I read on here others experiences of Marquis. We visited the local one and found them to be entirely disinterested and perhaps demoralised. Didn't give any confidence at all. How disappointing.
The only benefit of this warranty seems to be at point of selling as just happened to us. It's in warranty - woo hoo.
What do you all do with your warranty transfers?
Thanks in advance.....

Warranties are a bit misleading anyway. If you buy from a dealer you have rights laid out in the CRA. OK they won't last for 7 years but they're your legal rights, no matter what the warranty says.
Warranties are basically a promise to a repairing dealer that the manufacturer will recompense them for any work that's necessary. It's common practice within the caravan and motorhome industries for parts/appliance manufacturers to handle recompensing dealers on their products. This saves dual handling and gives the appliance maker direct control of what a dealer does or does not do and also enables them to provide direct advice on repairs for complex or unusual issues.
Water ingress on a panel van conversion is relatively rare, given it's a welded metal box, so it's not a major worry, compared with the potential issues of a coachbuilt van.
As to the ins and outs of an Autosleeper warranty I couldn't say, but someone will, I'm sure be able to confirm or deny your suggestions.

We came to the same conclusion as you and didn't pay to transfer the warranties.
As Andy says though, the dealer still has responsibilities for a time and we had repairs carried out by them "under warranty" (i.e. we didn't pay for them). We also had Peugeot work done under warranty.

Ah, we didn't buy from a dealer. Private sale but with both van and has annual warranties done at Peugeot and Marquis on time and at great expense.
Did you have to transfer the Peugeot warranty Weedgie?

Just spoke to Autosleepers who say cover on transfer of ownership includes
1. damp / water ingress to end of year 3
2. Water pump and pressure switch
3. Taps
4. Pipework
5. Water tank
6. Fittings such as cupboards and work surfaces
So you do get something for the 120 quid. I might spend it then book the damp check before the 3 years is up just for piece of mind.

We didn't transfer the Peugeot warranty either. Perhaps the dealer did, but, I doubt it, as we don't have any warranty paperwork in our name.

Lots of things drop off the warranty list after a year. Check those things A/S have said are still covered in years 2 & 3.

There's also an argument that £120 is nothing given the, very likely, substantial sum that you've spent to buy the van.

I'm not sure if vehicle warranties, rather than conversion warranties actually require a transfer. After all it's plainly evident when a vehicle has passed 3 years old. I doubt a motorhome dealer would transfer a base vehicle warranty if it was required, they usually see their responsibility only involves the conversion, whilst the Peugeot base vehicle is a garage issue. Best check the situation with a Peugeot commercial dealership. And a vehicle warranty is definitely worth having if the engine/transmission goes south etc.

Re: Warranty transfer on a 2018 van
Just looked in our Warranty/Service book and it appears that only the unexpired period of the first 3 year Habitation Warranty is transferrable and that the additional 3 years Water Ingress Warranty applies only to the first owner. So depending when the first 3 years is up really influences the decision as to whether to spend £120.Camper-x wrote:Just spoke to Autosleepers who say cover on transfer of ownership includes

Glad you mentioned this though as we are in a similar position being second owners of a 2018 vehicle and did not know about the non-transferability of the extended period.

Re: Warranty transfer on a 2018 van
Man I am I glad I did this. Over the last year I have noted down all the little niggles I had with the van. At service time I called Autosleeper direct. They covered it all under warranty. Outstanding service from Karen and Bev. Outstanding knowledge and work from Paul and his team. Left it there for 2 weeks. Really can't fault the after sales service. New Captains seat swivel bases, new reversing camera, all cabinet screws replaced with longer ones, new satellite TV dish, sliding door blind rattle fixed, microwave screws put in place, new bathroom mirror. Etc. it was a 28 point list and they went through it all. I firmly believe my Warwick XL is now better than when it left the factory. I paid for the hab service and for an additional leisure battery. The rest was warranty work and done with a smile. Can't fault that.

It’s very bad that the damp warranty cannot be transferred. Many manufacturers allow this on payment of a registration fee.
