Dreaded damp in our Nuevo
Hi guys,
New to the forum and thought I would get straight into it lol.
We have recently acquired a 2004 peugeot boxer nuevo and have it in currently for a habitation check. Just before bringing it in for this I had seen the cupboards and floor on the passenger side are a bit soft which I take it that they are rotten which is a bit of a scare but will treat it as a learning curve and see how bad it is.
In the meantime I wanted to see if anyone has advice on where you could maybe find an overhead cupboard from to replace the current one? Are there breakers yards at all that specialise in Auto sleepers? Or would it be best to buy the wood and have a joiner cut the panels?
Thanks

There are no specialist AS breakers.
A call to AS spares dept (I believe they are not fully open yet) might tell you if cabinet fronts are still available, if so then a cabinet maker could make new cupboards and match the others.

I bought a 2009 Nuevo last year with new Hab cert. 6 months later went to trade it in at a different A-S dealer who condemed it with extensive damp. Took it back to original dealer who bought it back , now its sold on presumably with a new Hab cert. It never seemed damp to me, was it ever that damp?

Presumably the Nuevo was purchased privately J84, otherwise you have recourse to the dealer under the Consumer Rights Act. Before taking action to repair what has been effected you need to clearly identify where the moisture has entered the van and have it repaired. Otherwise it will just happen again.

Re: Dreaded damp in our Nuevo
Thanks for the replies guys, yes we had the camper in with a specialist who has done a habitation check for us and it seems the original cause of the damp has been fixed, but the interior was never dried which has caused the damp to manifest itself. There is small leaks on the drivers side at the power socket and flue but there are easy to seal and dry out what damp it has caused.
I have looked into cabinet makers, etc and to keep the costs down I will use the current cabinet as a template to cut new sections to rebuild the unit where it needs sections replaced and mount back to the wall.
As we had expected......campers are a labour of love and will take some amount of upkeep lol.

I never noticed much damp, only when delving into the camper more.....something I should have done when purchasing but can't complain now lol. Its not covered with damp, just some areas that are now rotten from not being addressed when they should have been so come winter we will get the work done. Mainly changing cabinets and a section of the floor at the wall.

Re: Dreaded damp in our Nuevo
Like others I trusted dealers with both the Duetto and the Rienza.
As the Duetto was our first buy we were a bit blinkered. The interior was good for its age with no damp and every thing worked. What I didn’t see was the severe body rot. Considering I have connections to the motor trade I should have looked closer.
The Rienza came with a care package for three years so we felt any problems would be spotted and sorted during the three years. Body wise I made sure it was not going to catch me out. At the end of the three years I had the habitation check done locally. It was a shock to be told we had a damp patch under the side locker door.
The dealer that the care package was linked to said it was fine when they did the last check twelve months earlier. I tried for compensation but they weren’t interested. It only proved no matter how close you check and trust dealers they will never admit they were wrong.
We now have a motorhome we like with low mileage and we can afford to run it so hopefully we won’t have to go through buying another one for a while.
Good luck with sorting yours Jim

Re: Dreaded damp in our Nuevo
We had some damp behind the passenger seat on our 2004 Nuevo. Tracked it down to the mounting bracket for the Fiamma Awning. Took the awning down, resealed the mountain brackets and got a dehumidifier to make sure everything was dried out. Only problem was dropping the Fiamma cassette and breaking the end cap !! Must find spares sometime.
